Thermo replacement VN Rear of Motor

I am trying to replace my thermostat on VN 89 Commodore. I have taken it out but now it will not seal and keeps leaking water. It is in a bitch of a place. Bad design. Any help will be appreciated.

You can get gaskets for them from repco/bursons. Add some ultra-blue sealant to each side of the gasket and it'll hold nicely

Either that or it just needs a new o-ring. I think they used o-rings on the S1 thermostats.
