    Have I got a L3 V6 or V8 Tacho

This may help some people on working out what tacho you have in your L3 cluster.

This thread just has too much win!
I remember in the early 90's when I first owned a VN.
There was an article in one of the car mags about a company that was converting square arches to round.
How things change I love the look of the square arch kinda unique now.

They were grtting converted because some people liked the round arch.

I'll stick with the sqaure arches - one of the VN's good bits

theres a fairly riced up VP Clubsport here in NZ with rounded arches, even talks it up hard saying how extra cool it is that it has rounded arches.

Anyways check out the formula holden thread I've put some pictures up from an old mag I found but can't figure out to put them in this thread too.

May have some news on the very first VN produced. So we shall see if the L273550 tag number is the first production VN built in Feb 1988 or if there is something earlier in the time line.

Hope to find out this week.................

Update: The first customer car VN has 2 dates, issue date 6/6/88 and the sale date 17/6/88.

The Sale Date is the date that matches up to all the other serial number/date combo's I have

The date is different on every car.

My car has 01/04/93 on the plate, but holdens records list 04/04/93. The 2nd date is the sale date (obviously my car got off the floor alot quicker)

The strut assembly date will match the VIN date on the VP's

On the VN's the issue date looks to be the date that Holdens put the car into the production schedule. The sale date looks to be the "estimate" date the car is finished and ready for sale.

Just add that the engine numbers for the VN start at VH1000001.

Was said to be 1000 but I have no VH1000010.

Here is a graph of the early pre production engine numbers (said to be 5,000 made).

So as the stock of engines were used, the mixed up engine numbers at the start of production smooth out by October 1988. From October 88 the engine numbers and serial numbers track true to each other.

So early VN can have an engine number as high as 5000 or as low as 22. A VN with a serial number of L300000 can have a very low engine number or as high as 5000.

The points on the graph between the yellow and the blue are car/engine combo's that I have recorded over the past few years. So the yellow dot directly above the blue dot is the car serial number and engine number.
