As stealthy said thats a good idea, and that will tell you what that car was optioned with from the factory.
    Heres the site:
    https://reports.hsv.com.au/authenticate/

Other things to check on the actual car, is make sure its got the HSV build plate rivited on the firewall, and make sure it doesnt look like its been ripped off another car and glued on there.
Make sure the body kit is plastic not fibre glass. Make sure its got genuine interior and should also have a dash badge that matches the build number on the hsv plate on the firewall. Should also have the leather momo steering wheel.
Thats all i can think about at the moment

Were the VP wheels the momo ones or had they changed to nardi by then?

All of those things can be put onto a non genuine shell.

The VIN check will tell all!

The hsv build plates are sold on ebay,so are a few dodgy looking Hsv's ,
Ive seen a few geniune Hsv supposedly???
But which is rigth the build plate thats stamped or the one thats engraved or both? & Dont forget some migth be geniune HSV's which had dealer options, how do you pick these?
Im been wondering about this to as their are a lot of plates and placards to do a mock on ebay now ,and even if you cant get everything how many times have you heared of a Hsv or similar that the owner swears its geniune ,but was stolen and recovered missing bits but has still got the plates ect

As far as i know, VN/P only have the one under the window, the full VIN on the drivers side plate, and the Body number on the passenger side plate.

THAT is the number you check with HSV. Theres no way around it unless the car has been rebirthed. But that would be very hard to get away with in todays age.

The HSV side of things, the HSV plate will tell you what it is (after you've confirmed the VIN is infact a genuine HSV vin), either a specific model (Senator, Clubby), or it will have a number which refers to the pack (110, 125 or similar)

HSV should also be able to tell you exactly what options the car has, so you'd know if it was rebirthed or not! (ie, missing a sunroof, incorrect interior)
