    Post VN Berlina Overheating Problem

Hey guys how r u all going?

Well first of all I live in Tasmania, and I must say the heat there is usally low.

I am in victoria at the moment, and yer its about 42 degrees each day, and my car cant cope with it.

First happened about a week ago, once off, then a week later, the car had been driven all day fine, then clicked over it splutters and sounds weak, then turns off when you hit the GO pedal (haha)

Put in some coolant, perfect, car was running fine.

Then it did it a week later again, same problem all of the coolent gone, so topped it up and fine.

had a play with the thermal fan (set it to run on all the time, it wasnt working before and thats why i thort it was overheating) this made it worse, once the air con was on, the temp on the gauge went through the roof, so i disconnected the thermal fan altogether ( my wagon has 2 fans apparently) and it hasnt been getting hot since, even with aircon on. But im stuffed its still sucking heaps of coolant (but as i said, when it first happened, the car was really hot, but the temp gauge was normal)

    any ideas?

hmmm is there any leaks you can see? have u checked under the oil cap to see if its a milky colour? is there any bubbles in the radiator? as it is possible that the head gasket may be gone

If its a 5ltr where's your clutch fan?? do you have a shourd on still?? if not put them back and i bet itll run alot better.
By going by what you said 2 thermo i'm tipping ones replaced the clutch fan and the other is the air con one.
I'd also check for leaks if it using coolant or does it just boil out the overflow after you stop???

Radiator cap can be sus. Also ^^^ as said above head gasket. look for milky oil - bubbles in the radiator (when cold) take cap off. Aslo look at why the temp gauge did not say it was getting hot - if your loosing coolant - its getting hot at some point.
