SO i have a vn 88 calais that is doing strange things.
When the speedo gets to 90-100km usually the REVS drop & gear goes into overdrive.
But lately when the car hits 90-100km the speedo needle starts yer windscreen wiper movement continuously instead of the car going into overdrive!? REVS are higher than normal (when it works to see)
Speedo needle is fine below this speed.
It almost sounds as if the engine is workin harder but not gettin there any faster.......
WTFhas happened![]()
Could it be the cable or sumfin programmed to do with kickdown
ANY SUGGESTIONS
if the gearbox isn't going into overdrive at 90-100km/h then most probably it is something to do with a solenoid that locks the whole gearbox to the output shaft from the engine. Essentially overdrive is just engine to diff to wheels.
To clarify.
Overdrive is 4th gear. NOT direct drive.
The thing that sounds like a gear change at about 85km/h is your torque converter locking up.
yeah what he said.Originally Posted by Indy_387

Check your reverse lights, if they are out, then check 10amp fuse 12 or 13 I'm not 100% sure, but this will be blown. This controls the speedo signal back to the gearbox to shift it into overdrive.
Try this if it does'nt work them PM me.

OMG...I have replaced the 10amp fuse which has corrected the speedo and tacho, runs now at 110km on 2000rpm. Now runs in OD as before.
Seems to have worked heyTHANKS To HOLDEN many ppl would be gettin RIPPED OFF from gearbox mechanics
