    Default clutch ticking noise???

    hi
    i have a VN SS 5L 5 speed.
when the car is warm on hot days i get a ticking noise coming from my clutch. (it sounds like poking a piece of wire in the spokes of a bike wheel if you know what i mean. as revs increse the ticking is faster)

it starts off just when the clutch is depressed but on a really hot day and after longer driving it does it just idling and driving along. also gets louder.

but if i put my foot under the clutch pedal and hold the pedal up it stops.

doesnt happen everytime i drive it only sometimes.

any ideas would be great as would like to have some idea before pulling box off.

if it goes away when you hold your pedal up it might just need to adjust it, is it slipping at all?

to adjust have a look under the car on the drivers side and you will see where the cable goes into the box, just pull the black plastic cover off and you will see its like a big screw(i think its about 22mm) and i think you will need to screw it in a few turns, do that and see how it goes

If it a bit of a ticking noise at all then it can also be the spigot bush bearing will need changing. I replaced mine because it shattered and yeah it was making a ticking noise

    Thrust/Throw out bearing.

I and haydz have had the same problem in our cars (i still got it) and thats what the problem was. In mine if u lift the clutch up with the top of ur foot u can make it sound higher pitched

When you take it out just replace both the throw out bearing and spigot bush.

I have the same noise with a V6 manual. Same thing with lifting the clutch pedal. I just live with it but will check out the thrust bearing, although I thought it was replaced with the clutch not that long ago.

noisy pressure plate mate. simple as that, wont effect your cars performance, ul hear it slow down (the ticking) if you put your foot on the clutch while the cars running and when you release itl start up again. Had the same thing on my VL.

spigot never plays up, i bashed mine out anyway tho :P

most likely throw out bearing/pilot, i thinnnnk the holdens are a push type clutch like my supra as they use my gearbox as a upgrade, anyway throwout bearing contacts the pressure place if the clutch is in or out, therefore is always spinning.

keep driving it till something gets louder and you can pin point it, if its a bearing it will just get worse till you know where its comming from,

cheers guys. worked out what it was.

got the car up in the air while was hot and found the dust cover (one that goes between starter motor) had a kink in it. the extractors pass right next to it. when it got hot it bent that tiny bit more enough to scrub on the flywheel.

took it off. tapped it straight and all sweet now.
