Thread: 5L Bleed Screw - Where is it?

  1. Default 5L Bleed Screw - Where is it?

As title suggests, I'm trying to locate the bleed screw for my 5L. If anyone can let me know where it is, or has some pictures, your help would be greatly appreciated

Yep the 5 litre has no bleed screw, fill up the radiator when cold then put the cap back on, fill up the overflow bottle completely then take it for a good drive. Let it cool down and fill the overflow bottle again to the right level which is about half way

thanks for all your help guys, another couple of questions though: i have lpg and the system is higher than the radiator neck, can i still just follow eliminators steps and the system will bleed itself?

next question: the overflow bottle cap has 2 hoses connected to it, one with a long tube under the cap and the other with nothing. which one does the hose from the radiator neck go into? on mine it is connected to the one with the long tube, can someone please confirm on their car?

    thanks!

yip one with longer tube connects to radiator, not sure about your LPG coolant lines tho. I would doubt much air hangs around much in those hoses

I would be using the "coke bottle funnel" to lift the coolant level above the level of the LPG converter though. Alternatively, the water pump could do that instead with the engine running. Neither water nor coolant flow uphill.

Definitely the hose from the filler neck goes to the longer tube. Heres how it works:

When the engine heats up the coolant expands and some of it is pushed past the valve in the radiator cap to go to the overflow tank. When the engine cools, that coolant is drawn back into the engine cooling system again. The long tube acts like a straw and needs to be below the level of coolant in the reservoir or air will be drawn back in instead.

And you would have to crack open the highest hose fitting point till coolant appeared, tighten it up, replace cap then hot cold run cycle and top up reservoir.

Thanks for clearing that up. I thought it would expand and spill into the overflow bottle through the radiator cap, but then I thought it would draw it back from a different location. No idea why I thought that! What's the other tube connected to?
