ok here is the story guys...........i have put an 88 calais engine in my 92 vp swaped the intake manifild so she looks and well is a vp.
also swaped g/boxes while i was at it to save messin around.....
now heres where im stuck when i start her she idles like shit for about ten seconds then goes good when i put my foot down she struggles to do a damn thing almost stalls then pow she picks up i also have a engine management light on and an oil light on constantly i was wondering if the main ecu (left kickpad)is buggered cause i know oil is flowin to the top
oh also the thermo fan wont kick in and its like a brand new unit and works on the missus car
im goin mad here guys please help![]()
Could be a few problems combined, i would check oil pressure first off with an accurate gauge to ensure you have pull pressure if not id be looking at the oil pickup whick would most likely be blocked with carbon and soot. But chances are it could just be the oil sensor playing funny buggers, there common to do that at some point in time.
For now you could retrieve the engine code(s) and see what the fuss is all about, if it shows up code 13 you most likely have a dodgy ecu, ive had soem cars come in that have done what you expalined without the oil light or starting problem....
Your startup problem sounds like its overfuelling on startup, have someone check the exhaust when you fire her over to see if theres any black smoke exitting the tailpipe.
Are you 100% sure the thermo fan doesnt work?? it should only come on when the temp needle reads half way on the gauge (not the commodore gauges out there whic dont rise above the first notch, the more accurate ones). A test to see if it can engage is to switch the a/c on, if it doesnt go on at all then id suspect something is up.
If you do find that you 1-have oil pressure 2- thermo doesnt work and 3- no smoke on startup i would possibly lean towards an ecu defect.
thanx champ i have oil pressure thermo aint workin (temp went almost to the top lol) and no smoke im about to go see what codes are what grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr thanx buddy i owe ya
does sound like a engine management issue then, see what the code is then come back
im an idiot lol code 33 had a look and found the MAP sensor hose just swingin in the bloody breeze lol conected and running like a dream
thanx for the help mate
u need opra
what about the thermo fan and oil pressure light are they still on?? wouldnt imagine the map would do such a thing.
thermo fan workin and the oil light is fixed (loose wire lol)
there you go, shows that multiople things can go wrong and seem like an absolute nightmare. at least it was a free fix..
did you set up the pcv system correctly??

aint the series one engines and series 2 totally different as in the intake manifolds? as u said u used a 88 calais engine which would be a series one and then used the VP (series 2) inlet manifold, the PVC system will not work as the manifolds are different?? or did i miss something?:P
i put the bottom end of a 88 calis engine in a 92 vp used the top end (intake) thus negateing the need for me to swap every thing the car is now running perfectly (aside from the thermo fan)
does that calrify things
the top end was from a vp
so i didnt have to swap wireing harness and cooling and the pcv
