Default VN series 1 V6 overheating

Hi All, hoping you can help as its starting to do my head in.

    Some background 1st.

Its a series 1 VN V6 thats been transplanted in to a hilux 4wd.

While running the motor to bleed the air out of the cooling system i keep the radiator cap on and header tank cap off & everything goes ok. Eventually the bubbles stop after about 10 mins & it gets to operating temperature at which point I make sure the water level is ok and screw the cap back on the header tank & let it run for another 10 to 15 minutes the thermo fans kick in as required but as soon as you shut the motor down it boils thru the header tank...

Ive replaced the thermostat & am not running any coolant, only water until i sought this out.
Also what i've found is in the pic below i'm pointing to a pipe that comes up either side of the block and merges into one pipe and then hooks up to a hose that runs back to the header tank.

At no point does any water flow thru this pipe.
Is it possible that there is air getting caught in the water jackets and when the motor shuts off the air gets heated expands and pushes all the water out of the motor and then out the header tank???

If so what could be involved in fixing it?

It could be blocked 70-80% of them are blocked, unscrew them and where they attach to the manifold get the crap out of it with something that will fit into the holes, is the thermo been put in the right way? how hot is it at operating temp?

is the cap holding the pressure.
the top hose is meant to be hard at operating temp.
is the a blled srcew on the top of the engine for the cooling system, if there is then you bleed through there.

I have tried to remove it previosly but the pipe spanner just flexed around the nut at the base so to get it off is going to be a butcher job (something i'm more than capable of ) but wanted to make sure thats the problem before i trash em.

& yep the thermos are in right and the operating temp is around 90 deg from memory.

Cap is holding pressure and the hose is firm.

Where is the bleed screw on the VN's i know one model has it on the top of the thermostat housing but can't find the bleed screw on this motor.

Where (what height) is the header tank mounted? It must be the highest point in the cooling system to bleed correctly. You also have a normal type radiator cap? I think that shoud be a balnking type.

The pipe that you are pointing to is ment to be connected to the header tank and have a constant flow into the tank with the motor running. As said before, the s1 did not have a radiator cap and have to be fully bleed through the tank, so yes the cap should be a blanking one. Also is the tank the highest point to bleed all air out? Hope that helps.

i allways bleed the vn s1 engines via the rear hose connection as its the highest point on the engine itself normally plug the garden hose on the spare nipple on the radiator on passenger side undo the rear hose clamp and slip a screwdriver between the hose and metal pipe to let air escape the v6 racing class guys over here tought me this little trick works a treat.you could upgrade to vp inlet manifold need to drill one small hole in the drivers side head for pcv valve operation apart from that no more mods and do away with the pressurised header tank for a standard overflow bottle seems you allready have a radiator with a cap so wouldnt require much
