Default 9.5:1 - how much to shave off heads?

have a 165kw Vp does anyone know the std comp ratio?

how much would i have to have machined off the heads to acheive around 9.5:1 or even higher (i will get a crow cam kit ,stage 2 or 3, soon and want the comp bumped up)

would even higher (ie 10:1) be better or would it run badly with the crow tune? if better how much would need to be machined off?

    any info would be great!

I did the calcs and some research a while ago, I can't find my notes right now but I think 60thou should bring it up to around 9.5:1. Then you can get some 60thou spacers for the rockers, deck the inlet manifold, and you'll be set.

Yeah not the best way to go about raising comp but its the easiest way i would look at another cam instead of crow if you go the crow package their tunes is for stock comp and they charge another $150 for retuning a higher comp. personally i dont think much of their tuning abilities they use a lot of fuel.

Installing the right pistons for the job i.e. Flat tops is always the best/proper way of raising compression. ACL make high compression pistons for the V6 & 5 litre....

thanks for your quick replies every1,

i don't plan on rebuilding the engine right away so shaving the heads is the only option really... 60thou seems a whole heap though i was *dreaming* of 30 thou or so and getting away without machining the manifold to align...

are there any other companies who offer cam kits wth pre tuned memcals or even better how much approx would it cost to have it custom tuned if i got a custom cam ground? i'm not up to the stage of modifying the engine (shift kit going in tues and after that diff gears) just yet any approx prices (i'm in Perth) would be v helpful.... i'm only chasing 200kw at the flywheel as i'm not intending on changing the manifold just yet...

also would i need to upgrade injectors chasing 200kw?

thanks in advance this site has been a great help, matt

Matty, I'm making well over 200kw at the flywheel on the stock cam. You can aim for 200 rwkw at the rear wheels with a sensible cam and shaved heads maybe with a 3 angle vavle grind. Over 180rwkw will want a good fuel pump and bigger injectors
