Hey all,
I have been having some problems with my VP Calais - V6 Auto
For the last few weeks has been running rough, mostly on idle but in general drive as well. Car begins to pull as though it does not want to change gears. It vibrates quite noticeably.
I have recently changed the fuel filter, this made no change to the performance of the car, so bought and replaced spark plugs.
Car was running -ok- for a day or so after that.
It began to vibrate again in the last day when foot is on brake, (at traffic lights - etc) now today im scared to drive it as it has a constant heavy vibration. (the rpm fluctuates quite a bit when accelerating at a normal speed too)
i would like to have some idea of what is going on with the damn thing before i waste my time and money and take it to a mechanic...
Help guys?

i have been having the same sort of problems.
i think its going to be a fuel pump or computer. my computer is had it. i keep getting code 13 so i think that is whats wrong with it
code 13 doesn't mean your computer is buggered, it means there's an open circuit in the oxygen sensor circuit (at least it does for the VP, I think VR is the same/similar).
Anyway, if there's an open circuit in the O2 sensor system, check that the wire hasn't fallen off or broken, and check that the sensor hasn't disintegrated. If it all seems fine, replace the sensor, and see how you go. Don't forget to erase the codes once it's fixed too or it'll keep displaying
well its definitely not that for me. as i have replaced the 02 sensor. and checked all the wiring and its good. just the computer is shit.
oh yeah thought i would mention i am running a vp computer so yeah
sorry guys this doesnt overly help me out, i have no idea how to check codes etc. think you need to explain things in more female terms haha. i try but im not that clever. the car has not long had a new fuel pump put in - within the last 18 months anyway. where do i find these sensors?
Does the car do this from cold or only when its warmed up?? sounds like an electrical problem, an o2 sensor wont cause that much of a huff you might be up for a set of HT leads, crank angle sensor etc...
Have you noticed a little orange light displaying on your dash?
It sounds very much like an ignition miss to me. The spark plugs are one component of the ignition system and were a great place to start.
Yes, you might also try replacing the ignition leads (= HT = High Tension leads). These are the cables that connect to the spark plugs at one end and the coil pack at the other. If it is an ignition system fault, it is also possible but less likely, that it is that coil pack.
It is possible to test the leads first, and we can go into that (you need a multimeter - ohmeter) if you wish, but it's probably just easier to replace them. If you do that, the order in which they are connected is important, so one at a time is best.
The way in which to check for fault codes is described in the 'How To' section. The only tool needed is a paperclip. If you don't have the orange light coming on, it's unlikely to have set a fault code though.
no there is no orange light. someone suggested to me the timing belt as well. go figure, does that make sense to you? yes the car does do this from cold, not as bad though...the more she's driven the worse it gets!
The V6 engine in VP's doesn't actually have a timing belt (but rather a timing chain) so I think that we can rule that one out. The symptoms don't match particularly closely with that being the problem anyway.
I think try the 'leads first. They could arguably be replaced as part of a routine tune up anyway.
mine does this. when it's cold it runs smooth as. when it warms and the computer changes the timing or what ever it runs rough as. no codes. replaced coils, leads, throttle body, TPS, coolent sensor, O2 sensors crank angle sensors, computer, plugs, engine  different fuels and it has done it for the ten bloody years I had her. So any answer on Jays question will be welcome
