depends on what your system consists of exactly.

say it has a hot dog in the centre id replace that with a proper muffler, straight through or normal type would be up to you but since you want it quieter id use the normal type.

if you have a hot dog at the back or even nothing at all id either chuck a hot dog on there or a muffler depending.

Getting another muffler tacked in there should cost around $50.

Think about it this way; what's louder, a trumpet where the air goes round and round through heaps of piping, or a flute where the piping is shorter and straighter?
Exactly! The trumpet is louder. For this reason if you want athe best, quietest exhuast possible, you should take out all the mufflers and dump at the diff.

yeah, but a straight 1" exhaust dumped at the diff won't do much for performance, will it

mate, remove the muffler and install only a high flowing glass packed resonator right behind the exhaust tip, it muffles the sound right up to the tailpipe instead of muffling it half way down the car then the rest of the pipe is un muffled, which is where you get your drone from. And a v6 with drone sounds BAD

A resonator only instead of your current muffler will still give you a restriction free exhaust and muffle the sound/drone when quiet and driving normally but if you decide to put the foot down it will still make some noise, and it wont be the same note you have at the moment the drone will be reduced dramatically & the exhaust sound will sound crisp...

My 2.5in exhaust with 2 mufflers has always sounded pretty droney at about 2000rpm, so I took it to an exhaust place and he said it was the middle (closest to the cat) muffler causing it, so I'm getting a new one put in today.
Won't be able to update with how it goes though, coz I'll be away from the net for a couple weeks
