Hey all, need some quick Q's answered:
1. Will a S1 pressure plate assembly bolt up to a S2 flywheel?
2. Whats a good condition second hand V6 flywheel worth?
3. Whats the average price of a spigot bearing and where can I get one? Same goes for a throw-out bearing which I may as well replace as cheap insurance.
Why? I picked up EVERYTHING needed for a T5 conversion at a price that if I said no I may have well cut off my left nut. Anyway, it came from a Series 1 VN which is why I need to sell the 6 bolt flywheel that I have and buy an 8 bolt. (swaps anyone?)
But heres the twist! Before I can start the conversion I firstly need to find a car. So not in a great hurry just yet. Searching after a dirt cheap VP or S2 VN sedan. Nothing special of course. Just something to convert, get on the road and have something to call my own.
Cheers.
1) It should do - I can't see why there would be any difference. You're better off getting a new pressure plate + clutch though.
2) Hard to find - they usually get sold with conversion kits. But I'd say around $50-$100 - then another $40 to get it machined.
3) Spigot bearing = $10 or something like that, and a throwout bearing will come with the new clutch kit that I know you're going to go out and buy![]()

Yay morton to the rescue!
New pressure plate? clutch kit? machine the flywheel? Do you think Im made of money?
*runs for the hills*
Whats so wrong about using the old pressure plate and clutch disc? Or not getting the flywheel machined? I could probably machine the flywheel at tafe anyway so Im not worried about that. But as for using the rest of it, it would just be like it never left the donor car. The clutch disc still has a fair bit of meat left on it, the pressure plate and flywheel have no grooves or damage what so ever. So I may as well reuse them. At least for now anyway while coin is tight. But the throwout bearing could do with replacing so yeah maybe I will strike oil, and not the kind that leaked out of the gearbox and into the back of the wagon on the way home, and now smells really bad
. Havnt told mum yet. Shes in for a surprise in the morning hehe.
Hmm where am I going to find an 8 bolt flywheel I wonder.

hahaha, it's just a pain in the arse to change clutches, it's always worth throwing a newie in while you've got it all apart. But I guess there's no harm in using the old stuff if you're tight for cash![]()

i asked a wreaker here in north qld a month or two ago about flywheels and was told he sells them for $200 each.
Wow! Thats almost half of what I payed for for the lot! lol
If I can sell the 6 bolt for the same price as what an 8 bolt costs then its all sweet, but not sure how I will go with that. I guess there would still be a demand for the 6 bolt though seeing the crank adapter for S1 only supports a 6 bolt. Who knows.
Morton, yeah I guess its a worthwhile thing to do but my wallet says otherwise lol. Im not really fussed about having to change the clutch a bit earlier than if I used a new one, but glass is half full. And by the looks of it, it should still last a while because it looks to have a fair bit of life in it. Il grab some close up pics of everything tomorrow if I get bored which no doubt I will. But either way it will do for the time being.
I hope they sell throwout bearings separate because I would be shattered if I started it just after putting it all together to find a bearing whine.![]()
You should be able to pick one up for not much money(less than 40)

when i had my vr it was very hard to find an 8bolt but mechanic found one for me which cost $190 second hand (i had to go to wreckers and pay/pick up) bit of a rip off but i was happy in the end i guess haha
The pressure plate will fit, it was only the bolt pattern on the flywheel which changed form s1 to s2.. a 2nd hand flywheel is only really worth 50 bucks but you will find it hard to match that quote, prices are hectic at the moment, shop around on ebay... and spikot bearing and throwout will be 30-40 bucks brand new from repco, bought some about 6 months ago when doing my mates vp manual conversion.
Alright cheers for the replies guys. Not liking the sound of it being a rarity lol. Its funny and quite ironic how manual was standard and auto was an option which the majority "upgraded" to, but now no one wants them. Damn slushies! lol

Yeah youd be hard pressed finding a seires 2 flywheel i was lucky to get one off here for $150 from tunsa and its was in vgc and didnt need machining. S1 flywheels are basically worthless see them go for about $70 on ebay which i suppose is better than nothing
new aftermarket flywheels are $600.
Clutch i bought was exedy heavy duty $230 with new spigot bush.
$10 on new clutch fork rubbers
$40 on flywheel bolts

Clutch kit sounds reasonable but the current clutch will have to last a bit longer. Whats included in the clutch kit may I ask? I had a look on exedys website before but it doesnt say exactly.
Exedy - Spec Sheet
Or is everything listed there included? ^
Time to bump up this thread again!
The manual conversion has gone to plan early because it turns out I have loose flex plate bolts (to crankshaft), which means its time to drop the slush box anyway. And after having to remove the steering rack and exhaust to remove the inspection cover, which is a completely stupid design, I dont feel like doing it again in a few weeks. Better to get it over and done with straight up! Plus the auto shifter is now gone and got the pedal box fitted today. Im already loving how light the accelerator pedal is now with no kick down cable attached
Anyway, I came across a flywheel Im interested in, but without an excessive price tag and want some opinions. It uses the auto flex plate as the ring gear (which is probably why its not so expensive) and comes with ALL new bolts and a spigot bush. Plus theyre only in Dandenong.
The package is $395.00 and includes: Flywheel, spigot bush, special aligning and bush fitting tool, clutch dowels, clutch bolts, crankshaft bolts, flex plate bolts and instructions.Originally Posted by www.marks4wd.com

And while Im at it, anyone know what an Exedy HD clutch kit for a V6 is worth?Theyre on ebay for $260 posted. But not sure what theyre normally worth. Yes Ive decided to do it right from the start

$260 is a good price if it's the real deal.Glad you're getting a new fly and clutch kit, that's the best way to go.
