I've broken the glass in my drivers side electric mirror, I was wondering if I'd be able to pull the glass out and replace it wif a another glass from a executive/calais or would it have to be just a calais or whatever came with the electric option. Or would I have to buy a whole new mirror?
thanks, mickah
You can replace just the glass but it's tricky to swap over without breaking the plastic joints that hold it in and I don't think that you can buy just the glass section new. That means that you would have to remove two glass pieces; a used replacement and the broken one, and install one, all without breaking anything.
I think that Holden's solution is (or was) to sell you a piece of glass with an adhesive backing that sticks over the top of (or in place of?) the broken glass.
Probably the easiest solution is to buy a complete replacement used. I think that there are two (at least) versions of the electric mirrors with different length wiring pigtails to the connectors, so you might want to remove yours first in order to match it.
Electric mirriors were made standard on VP Executive so if the pigtails match or you can adapt the wiring there should be plenty around.
thanks for the reply, I just ended up going to the wreckers and getting a whole new mirror for $20. It was too easy than having to stuff around.
cheers, mickah
Ive recently put power mirrors on my VN but the new passanger side mirror is magnified! So i want to swap the glass over with the original.
How do you get the glass off? Ive had a look but cant see how.
