    Default Tranny leak.

    Hey guys,

Where are some common places for a transmission to leak from?? Mines been leaking for awhile now, but I can't find out where from..

I've gotten under the car and it's not leaking from the seal. But when I did get under it, it looked like the transmission oil was leaking off the top of the crossmember? Anyone know how the transmission oil could be leaking onto there?

Funny thing though, it's been leaking pretty bad for about a month now, but every time I check the tranny oil it's always full. Think I may have just over filled her?

sure its transmission fluid and not engine or steering fluid?

I'm definate that its not engine oil OR steering fluid - tis red! The steering rack has a tiny leak from the boots that is the only other leakage I can find.

    ah ok

well there's a few places that they can leak, such as : the pan gasket, rear seal in g/box, front torque converter seal, selector linkage seal, and the speed sensor seal/s

when u say crossmember do you mean the rear grossmember (one that has the tras mount connected) or the main crossmember that holds engine up. if leaking onto the rear crossmember then id say its either rear g/box seal and/or speed sensor seal.

Not leaking from the pan or the rear seal in the gear box itself, will checkout the front torque converter seal and selector linkage seal... Don't think I have a speed sensor seal??

    The speed sensor seals are:

    a) inside the speed sensor - it looks like a flat washer, P/N: VS19145.

    b) the 'O' ring that seals the speedo drive gear housing to the trans. extension housing. Undo the 10mm headed bolt that holds the clamp and gently lever it out for access to it (auto.).

    1) rear extension housing seal
    2) pan gasket
    3) speed sensor
    4) dipstick
    5) trans cooler lines
    6) front seal

are the only places it can really leak from. Clean them all up, and watch for the new marks

Could be a cracked extension/main housing too... These can be barely visible and still weep fluid, I didn't think ATF got thin enough to make it through a gap like that at first, but after seeing it, I'm a believer.

Extention housings crack easily when people try to fit them with two gaskets hahaha, I've learnt this one from experience ^_^
