I know a lot of members here don't like the pod filters, but I can't afford a good air cleaner so I just went with a pod filter for now. I have been running it for a week in the normal position where the air box usually connects to the intake pipe. But my question is, is there any advantages/disadvantages to having the pod filter connected straight up to the breather like in my pic below?
I know it will be sucking more hot air as it is being closer to the engine, but having it connected straight up to the breather would lessen the amount of time that the air has to get there compared to when connected to the whole intake pipe.

wouldve been better off leaving the standard intake on it

What advantages are there in doing so?
Whats the deal with everyone posting identical topics on SC and JC.
Pods are only effective in an enclosed box, since you are poor, thats probably not something you should be purchasing! Get a panel filter, and use the standard holden setup

I posted the same question on multiple forums so that I can get a thorough answer as quickly as possible from as many different sources as possible. I don't see a problem.
The problem is, if you had searched, you would have found 100 pod vs panel filter threads, which would have allllllll the info you could ever need to make a sensible choice!

At the time all I could afford was the pod filter, and now all I want to know is which is the best position for it?
If my determinations were wrong, then my bad!
pod filters are nasty . . . . yuck to pod filters put them back on 4 bangers
Best position, as i mentioned, is in an enclosed box.
Atm its just sucking in hot air.
Standard holden airbox, with a KnN filter and holder CAI is the best option!

I have decided to go a cheap Ryco filter for the airbox and take the pod off.
Thanks everyone for your contributions.
A new paper filter is going to out perform a pod filter. When new, the paper filters will out do the KnN filters. If you are poor you just spent money to make your car perform worse. The air in that part of the engine bay will be very hot, it's right over the headers. The amount of time it takes to get there is like measuring bees dicks. Yeah it is different but by how much and it makes bugger all difference for what it is worth.
You can get a pod filter air box through yella terra I'm pretty sure. That way you will keep the car legal.
Pod filters make your car sound like a vacuum cleaner.
with the buick motor though ...what does it matter the temp of the air its sucking if it doesnt have a air flow meter.
im tired tonight and asking rather noobish shit lol

Cold air is much denser than hot air. You know how you get a empty plastic bottle in the sun and it expands, or how flat ballon pumps up again when it gets hot. So less hot air can fit into a certain space compared to cold air. Less air to burn means less energy produced which means less horsepower. You can work out how much power hot intake temps cost you here

only reason i bring this up is on the dyno, we tried different places for mounting a pod in a navara with a VN motor and it picked up 12 kw's apparantly. and i said the same thing.... mounting it there would suck to much hot air.... couldnt really understand it.

dont worry about stealthy, he hasnt had his morning cuddle by the looks of things.
but seriously, cai kit with the standard holden air box. get air from the front of motor it's cool, cool air is better for performance compared to warmer air, all your doing is sucking in warmer air with the pod upwhere it is.
i am the god of britany spears womanizer on just dance on the wii
I have taken the pod filter off and replaced with the stock airbox with a new RYCO filter. When I can afford to buy a CAI and a better air filter I will add those.
Thanks everyone for your contributions.

I ment about the costs of filters (as its been pointed out you could get a decent panel filter for the same price) which would mean you have no need to find a good location for the pod.
Like i said tho, an enclosed box is best, and getting one fabricated isn't going to happen with no money! so for you panel filter and holden CAI.

If I ran the current setup to a standard box and panel, then it would be slightly superior to the pod. But in the interests of developing the enclosure I didn't bother.

K&N filters don't loose power when they get dust on them because the dust goes straight past them lol
Dynos wont messure how good a cai works at all since the bonnet is up with a big ass fan blowing on it. Soon as the bonnet is closed those 12rwkw would be gone and then some more with them. You really can't beat the traditional cai at the highest pressure location you can stick it (just under or in the fornt bumper) that's even better than a over the radiator. Also when you change the length of the intake piping you change the helmholtz resonance of the intake. A short pipe could give you alot more top end power if you have the length just right but the better way to do it would be stick a box at that location and then your normal duction to the front of the car (the box is a termination point then). I've allways beleived this is why the starr manifold can make more power than a stock banana, just because of the diameter change and different resonance rather than the flow itselfonly reason i bring this up is on the dyno, we tried different places for mounting a pod in a navara with a VN motor and it picked up 12 kw's apparantly. and i said the same thing.... mounting it there would suck to much hot air.... couldnt really understand it.
