Hey I am new to Just commodore's Interested in idea's for my VN S Sedan, I earn a bit of money with my job and am looking to recreate my VN into a monster, Look, Sound, everything, I have decided to call it The "Prowler" Project Due to a sticker on the Car it's Known as the prwoler around town.

I Have had the car for just over a year, and Started A new job and i find myself with a bit of money in my pocket. I always wanted to do something with the car, just i dont know too much about getting more performance out of it. It's a VN S sedan, But the previous owner had changed the engine with a VR it's manual, with extractors full exhaust system 17" alloy rims, stock body kit, LSD Diff. All i have done is maintinence. Recently changed the coilpack leads and spark plugs, just normal upkeep things.

    *Diff Reconditioned
    *Engine Reconditioned
    *Gearbox Reconditioned

Brake upgrade: VT Brake conversion. Check eBay.

    Engine upgrade: V8

Or you could save ALL the money from doing ALL of these upgrades, and instead drop an LS1 in there

Yeah I thought about stroking it But it's sort of a 2 way street there, u gain power but it weakens the engine at the same time, Thats what i have been told anyways.

I quoted a rockford system today 5 grand will be sick! Pump some Parkway drive in that.

What speakers/amps/subs etc.? With the Rockford stuff try and get the gear made in the USA, though thats getting more difficult as more and more of it is being made by smaller companies in China and Asia.

No offence, but "Prowler" makes it sound like you hang around outside of high schools with severely darkened windows, offering out packs of smokes for favours.

Now that's out of my system, what do you want to achieve with the car and what limits do you currently have on you?
They would be the two things I would figure out first.
For instance, why install 300 pounds of stereo gear if you want to go quick?
    See what I mean?

I have to laugh at the 'novelty horn' bit though, that's gold....

Agreed. If you want to spend that kind of money on audio, instead buy a pair of Peavey HD-H1s and a couple of CS series amps. And a van. Then you will not only have a diecent audio system, but you will be able to make money to spend on your commodore.

Just to set you straight on this one, stroking an engine does not necessarily weaken it. It involves making the piston travel further down in the bore to increase swept volume or volumetric capacity of the engine. Sometimes you may have to clearance the bottoms of the bores a little to allow for the swing of the crank, but that all depends on what type of engine you are working and how far you are going with it.
In these modern times, aftermarket blocks are being manufactured that accomodate huge stroker cranks and do it reliably.

Really? You're going to spend all that money on a sound system?

    ... in a VN Commodore?

Dude, if you have that sort of money to throw around, at least buy a Buick Riviera and drop the gear into that At least then, you're not slowing down a fast car

while you're getting the stereo installed, put a neon sign on the roof of your car that says - "steal me! steal me!"

Seriously, you want to go stupid with stereo, get a hiace minivan or something.

Give him a break hes said hes new to cars, and most people want a decent stereo first of all, you just dont need to spend much
My girlfriend bought a stereo deck for her VS and uses stock speakers and plays through her ipod and the sound is awesome no need to update that shit just get a new deck.

Only good thing about gettin all that is it can be transferred to another car if needed

If you were to save the money for a v8 conversion, you _will_ listen to the engine more than music anyway

Up your security too. Worth the cash if your serious about the stereo etc.

A really good alarm, immobiliser, security tints, etc. At the end of the day if some f***wit wants in, they will get in. But if you can slow them down and require them to be a bit louder in the process, your chances of keeping your gear and increased somewhat.

If you want RF thats a good choice but I wouldn't pay over $500.

Why are you getting 6x9's with subs? Even so you could get those speakers for $250 quite easily.

You'd be much better off with the T162C 6.5" speakers, for around the $200 mark.

At 60watts each it will run the speakers ok, but you should be able to pick it up for around $700.

Good choice, 600rms each. DVC 4ohm as well so with 2 of them you can them at 1ohm. Probably $500 each.

Bad choice on the amp though ?

Why bother spending all that money on subs and then get an amp that won't even power them to half their rated power?

That amp produces 500wrms at 1ohm, so 250rms per sub when each sub can take 600rms.

I'd atleast get the T1000-1bd for around the $1200 mark, or theres the T1500-1bd as well.

Yeah, i read the quote wrong, the amp to run the subs is the ROCKFORD FOSGATE T15001bd. I have mate's that do paint, and interia's so thats all easily done, i just needed motor idea's really or anything people think i should do be sides bying house's. I don't know much about engine but if i was to get it stroked, would getting the engine re-conditioned be a waste of time and money.?

They rebuild the engine when they stroke it so it kind of would be. If you're stroking it just buy a 4.2L short motor from COME. Change the rear speakers on the quote to the T162C 6.5" speakers instead, anyone will tell you 6x9's sound bad with a sub, 6.5" are the way to go.
