    Default Brake squeak

    Hi,

Does anyone know what causes that really high pitch squeaking sound from your brakes? I just got my front brake pads replaced and rotors machined at Midas but the squeak has started to come back again almost 2 days later!
    Any ideas?

They may have not put this sticky pink stuff on the back of the pads.

Go to supercheap and pick up some anti-squeel spray for the discs. Just take off the wheel and spray it on the disc while you spin it, do both sides.

if that doesn't completely solve the problem go back to supercheap and get this pink brake pad anti-squeel stuff and if you have the confidence, take out the brake pads and spray it on the BACK of them, not the side that makes contact with the disc.

I do this every time I replace the pads on the 2 cars in my family and have never had so much as a peep from them.

this is not 100% relevant but ill write it anyways. when i got new front rotors and pads at teh same time, i noticed after the brakes had warmed up theyd begin to squeal really bad -turned out that the pads were too thick and were always rubbing causing excessive heat - and therefore the noise...?? weird but true - they put different (thinner) pads and now its ok

I've had the same problem before. It might be the pads that you are using which could be too hard of the rotor. Try softer type pad.

I agree with wat the above two posts say.....mine use to squeal real loud when they were hot. solution - softer brake pad.... barely hear a noise from mine anymore.

Ah yeah I forgot to mention that. It could be incorrect pads. But I've found rather than buying the new pads, I just used the stuff from supercheap.

The sticky stuff makes the pad stick to the piston(s) therefore when the piston(s) relieve pressure the pad comes back with it.

Before you go getting your brakes tested and pads replaced.. Jack up the car and give the wheels a spin, it'll be very noticeable if there is any drag (continuous contact between pad and disc).

Thanks for all the info. The squealing was really bad this morning, they used to only squeal when I used the brakes lightly but now they squeal when braking hard. They have also started squealing at two different frequencies so it’s really annoying, ha ha Midas have a 12 month guarantee so I just dropped the car back to them this morning, I’ll let you all know what the problem was later.

Just collected the car, they said it was glazing on the pads and discs due to excessive/pre-mature heat build up! They said if it comes back I can get rid of it by getting the car up to a decent speed and then jamming on the brakes.
