Default Ticking behind dash (no, not injectors or lifters ticking)

Hey guys, so ive had lifters ticking for sometime and i know that it isnt this new noise.

I drove my car the other night, stopped at home for about 1hour and then started my car back off, as soon as i put it in drive and took off i got a loud ticking which changed with acceleration coming from behind my dash.

I'm now wondering what this ticking is???

Speedo, tacho, fuel gauge all work well, temp never has with this dash and its bloody annoying me so all help is appreciated.

    Cheers

Could be the speedo cable? Does it only do it when you are moving?

It could be starting to fray and the wire is ticking against the outer sheath.

this may sound a lil stupid but--------

i had similar noise once - sounded like under the dash - pulled all dash apart and stuff -- long story short

my front drivers mudflap the nuts hoilding it on - there was one holding it on and it was flapping in the breeze and got worse with accellaration

dont have no mudflaps now so no noise lol

I'm with stocky. I'd definitely be checking the gasket between the head and exhaust manifold/header. When you car is stone cold, pop the bonnet, figure out how you can get your hands around the edges around of the gasket. Fire it up and quickly have a feel around for pressure leaking before it warms up, if it's a big enough leak you should be able to feel the pressure. This can be especially loud if for some reason you have a grommet missing from the firewall. If you're still not convinced, get a mate/family member/friendly stranger to stall the motor up a bit in gear on the brake, and stick your head under the bonnet and have a listen around. If you have 2 piece extractors, they're notorious for leaking at the join in the middle too, so check there as well. I'd be very surprised if this noise isn't some kind of exhaust gas leak. Just FYI, VN upward doesn't have a mechanical speedo cable. Hope this helps!

Hey Abrowne70, how has it gone with the noise, cause I took my calais down the strip, and ever since I got that ticking too, started around 3k rpm, now around 2k rpm, gets slightly louder and fast as revs climb.

Anyone else got an idea for the prob, let us know, got me screwed (not gaskets either)
