Hey guys,
I have a Rodeo which i fitted a series 2 VN V6
After some major fuel consumption issues and a lot of research on here i managed to fix the issue
It was running really well but now has started to cough and splutter when taking off
its only when you first start it, ie in the morning, after work ?
It runs fine doing 100kph but it seems to be using a bit more fuel??
I replaced the TPS, Spark plugs and leads, Water temp sensor, oxi sensor, map sensor
The only things left are coil pack, IAC and CAS
Please help me before i have to do a 5ltr swap![]()
You say it only coughs and splutters when cold? How long does this continue, before it goes away?
Could be water or oil getting into your cylinders.

if youre last resort is to throw a 5 litre in, you wont get much help haha
1995 Manual HSV Clubsport
Wade Cam :: 9.2:1 CR :: Pacemaker headers :: Twin 2.5" Exhaust :: VT Brakes
1991 Supercharged VN Berlina
9 PSI SC14 Intercooled :: Genie headers :: Twin cats :: HM Twin 2.25 exhaust :: 3.45:1 LSD
+1 for the 5ltr going in
"A life lived in fear is a life half lived"
so once it has warmed up it will accelerate properly ? If its the coil pack it chould cough and maybe the odd backfire under acceleration.
If its a cold problem maybe a temperature sensor ?
After say 2 minutes it fine?
If i take my foot when it does it, it stops spluttering and will sort itself out
Fiancee wont allow a 5ltr without a few black eyes lol
well hurry up and belt her lol then get ya 5ltr ---im only jokin
I'm voting injectors too, I didn't want to say anything that would stop the 5litre otherwise I would have posted hours ago :0
is there any simple way to test?
Fuel pressure gauge and a gregorys or if need be when Im not tired I'll type it out.
Basically you connect the gauge with a T piece in the hose that connects the fuel rail, pressurise the system and with two vice grips or small G clamps clap both feed and return hoses shut and look for pressure drop.
Pressure drops, injectors are leaking.
To test the pressure reg, if the injectors don't leak then release the return line clamp first and look for pressure drop.
to sum it up there should be no pressure drop.
You can test the pump this way too by releasing the feed line and looking for pressure drop.
LMK if you have problems understanding and tomorrow I will give it in long form o.k.
think i get it
Ok, just swapped the coil pack and its still running like puss?
Where is the best place to get injectors from?
You can have your overhauled. Take it to a local machanic and they will do the lot for $60-$70
