Hey guys,
Well I bought a VN commodore 4 months ago. Seeing as I didn't have my licence my sister drove it around until about 2 weeks ago. Everything was going good with it.
The guy who owned it previously kept EVERY service record since 1990 when he first got the car and made sure that everything was good to go before he sold it. He did say they had a reconditioned engine put it but it was working fine.
Anyways on Sunday it started to play up. As I as going up a hill it started spluttering like it was out of petrol. I admit the tank was getting close to empty anyway so I thought it was just that.
I filled her up on Tuesday and it started doing the same thing again when I was driving to school. Eventually it stopped doing it and it was fine until I was driving home.
For some reason the cars revs were going from 1000rpm to 3000rpm and back again WITHOUT my foot on the accelerater. I thought it was a little funny but apart from that it was fine. Then it started spluttering again and shortly after the engine cut out.
It has been doing this since Tuesday and I have no idea what is up with it. My granddad has taken a look but cant seem to see anything wrong with the engine etc. Most people think it has something to do with the fuel filter/line or something like that.
I am a single mum of 2 kids and I don't have the money to fix something that will cost a fortune....Do you guys have any idea what is going on and approx. how much it will cost to fix![]()
maybe coil packs or dfi module
It could be getting hot and it could be the Crank angle sensor, the car will die and not start untill its cooled down, your idle problem may be the Idle air control sensor, in the Throttle body give it a good clean with throttle body cleaner and see how it goes, if you have some1 that knows abit about cars, you can check the computer and see if it has any error codes coming up this will eliminate some problems and may need to replace some sensors. good luck.

Find a mechanic who will give a no obligation free quote, get them to plug a diagnostic tool in and see what the sensors are all doing when the car is playing up. Then get back to us. The fact your car is reving that high without your help means the ecu is throwing the idle air control valve wide open for some reason...
