Default V8 manual conversion using Ford T5?

Is it possible? Do I just need the Holden bell housing? Is the shifter setup different? Different I/O shafts/spigots/whatever?

The shifter is closer to the engine. My mate put a ford T5 in his torana behind a 304 as the shifter lines up better than the holden one. im not sure exactly how far diff they are but I suspect in a commodore you will be slamming your stereo when shifting into 1st

isn't the shaft a different spline?, I thought even the box itself is the "other" of the two T5's they make

Hmm. Seems like it's not such a great idea. A mate told me the two are geared completely differently as well, anyone have more info on that?

Gear ratio's are different. Doesn't really make much of a difference. Just depends on what sort of overdrive/5th gear you want and how tall you like first.

You can get one to fit, there was a guy here in W.A making up a kit to bolt the Ford T5 to a Holden V8 because they are easier/cheaper to aquire (well not sure bout the Eastern States, but Ford T5's are easier to find in W.A then a Holden T5)

Yeah it's the same here, there was crap loads of T5 Falcons built, much more common than in the Commodores

    lol yea danja, you're right

as for gearing, a highway 5th would be nice but not if it means a stupidly tall 1st *remembers AU falcon automatic*

I found out a little more info.
Castlemaine rod shop make a bellhousing that will bolt the ford t5 to the holden v8, the bellhousing is a lot shorter because the ford input shaft is a lot shorter. I think the splines are the same but even if they are notm, the ford coutch plate will work with the holden flywheel and pressure plate. the result - the gearstick ends up further forward - perfect for a conversion such as the torana. not so good for a commodore unless you want the gearstick to be way up under your dash...
