Default VT brake conversion onto VP

Hey guys picked up some vt front calipers, brake booster and master cylinder today pretty cheap.

Now i know for the conversion i need floating hubs, which are roughly $250 on ebay(if anyone knows where they are cheaper let me know please) but i have also read that VR/VS dont require these floating hubs because they have some of their own.

My question is, am i able to get the hubs of a VR/VS and use them for the conversion onto my vp.

    Thanks

This was discussed in another thread recently and it came to the conclusion that it could be possibly to use the whole VR/S strut with a VN/P bearing plate on top to mount it in. Know one actually tried it though, but if you can get a vr strur assembly for next to nothing then it may be worth a shot as the theory seems to work. You will still however need the egg rings($30 ebay) on the vr hub to fit the Vt rotors still.

^^^I think your right, hub change sounds easier to me too. But if he has a hoist, rattle gun and cheap vr stuts then it may work out cheaper and wont take long on a hoist plus you can change a few bush's while your there.

Yup that's right, the entire strut is required to fit VR/VS hubs onto a VN/VP. They used a different style bearing and hub assembly. I'd personally stick with the VN/VP style strut and bearing assembly, only as they are user servicable bearings, and much easier to remove/regrease/replace. You also don't have the issue of rotors becoming rusted onto the bearing assembly, and requiring the assistance of a mallet to remove.

I think some fiddling needs to be done with adaptation of brake lines, double check on that mate

i just want to say you cant use the vn-vp strut tops on a vr-vs strut the vr-vs sharft is thicker then the earlier models and wont go into a vn-vp strut top

    been there tried that

yeah decided ill just fork out the cash for the adapter hubs, only couple hundred and makes it alot easier, yes i have access to all those items(hoist, rattle gun etc.) but just be neater using the adapter hubs and when i want to sell my car and keep the conversion i can.

So where apart from ebay has the adapter hubs and prices?

sydney race brakes sell the hubs but they have no stock for at leased 2 weeks away and wen they do get them in u will be looking at close to $300 and that doesnt come with bearings either, also u will need the longer brake lines and there $150 for the braided ones

Getting the Booster to bolt will be fun. This is going require you to have some handy engineering skills and welding skills. They don't match up. Marcovr can help you maybe and there are a few others that have threads covering this conversion on a few forums.

I found twobros in NZ make a firewall bracket for the VT-Z booster onto a VB-S firewall.
Some people have modified a VS booster bracket to bolt the VT booster to but it is a bit dodgey. You will also have to modify the pushrod on the VT booster by shortening it, welding up the hole for the brake pedal and creating a new hole for the brake pedal.
A better option is use a plastic VS booster which allows the VT Master cyclinder to be bolted to it with a spacer you can get from racebrakes sydney
if you have an early VP then you will need brass thread adaptors to be able to get the brake pipes to fit up. There is some bending of the pipes also required so be very careful

^^you can use vs booster but it is a weak plastic single diaphram job. Your better off using the stronger double diaphram steel booster off the vt/z.

??are you making them yourself. If so im unsure exactly of the length, but the are longer than the stock ones on the vt. But if your buying them the brake shop will know what to make up and the fittings needed on the ends

yes but the VS booster is matched to the stepped bore master cylinder that was closer to the VT master than the VR one.

Just suggest using it to avoid to much fluffing about. Yes the VT booster is a far far better option but get the firewall bracket made to suit and engineered and the push rod modified.

Racebrakes sydney or race brakes perth.

the vt lines are too short but not by much, i ran them on my car for a week or so then realside on full lock they were kinking. so i went and got the proper lines made up there and then.
