Default anyone know when VN got digital climate control units?

ive been looking to buy a VN Calais 5L and have noticed that somewhere in 1990 they started getting digital climate control units instead of the 2 knobs and slider.

can anyone pin point it down to the month?
and can these digital units be installed into cars without?

    thanks

pretty sure they can be installed into models without, but might not be easy.

The XX8 wiring loom upgrade went into the VN on 13/10/89 L383096. This was the first chance a VN could have ECC. The VN Mark 2 was released in Feb 1990 and this had ECC as standard in the Calais.

It must have only been optional for the first few months before they made it standard!

XX8 released in March 1990 as a Tech Bulletin

ECC (Option 61) may have been a Calais option from the introduction of the VQ. ?????

The wiring harness changes: (some introduced to production Oct 89.)

    new fuse circuit grouping
headlamp fusible link rating up from 30 to 40 amp
a 30 amp engine fusible link replaced 2 links
to clear engine codes past L383309 remove engine fusible link for 10 seconds
engine cooling fan fusible link up from 25 to 30 amp
reduced harness lenght to wiper and headlamp switches
addition of PVC covers to battery and main harness connector
    light over ignition lock
    main wiring harness connector revised

    For the Calais
    mongoose anti-theft provision
    power antenna loom deleted
    revised MWH to body connector

licence plate lamp leads included in the body harness
    auto tranny loom update
relocation of a few wires to the battery harness
ECC service info in VQ series service manual

So March 1990 is the official month. I suspect a few trial units would have gone down the line well before this date.

Can you put climate into a car - yes - but it's a bit of work. I just did the 88 VN Wagon over xmas. It's change the heater box and wire in the 10 wire loom and mount the sensors. About 2 days work.

Here is a link to the XX8 VN upgrade

I had a climate control system into a VN thread going.

ive also been looking at VN SS's and noticed that somewhere in 1990 the front seats changed. i was thinking these 2 changes would have happened at the same time. and according to that bulletin i was right.

apart from the front seats, any other changes to VN SS? cos if i cant find a 91 model (ideally i want the last model) for a decent price, ive got a 90 model in mind with the 'series 1' seats, which i could just change anyway.
