Are VP VN wagon tail gates the same?

I'm hoping they are!

Hubby reversed into an old 4wd ute! Smashed the rear windscreen and caused some nasty damage to the surround. Onya hubby!

Anyhow I spoke to the local wrecker, and he reckons they are the same and has a couple in his yard. I cant get out there until tomorrow, but I really wanted to know whether they are the same and is it a simple take it off and put it on job?

Would really appreciate an answer, thanks in advance.

Yes identicle. The biggest issue your gonna have is lining the door up as it is fairly heavy. If you can stack a heap of timber up behind the car to sit it on while you work on it would be easiest or is there a retaining wall you can back the car up to so you can lay the door up on it while you do up the hinges.

Thanks for replying, we got one, its blue and our car is a greenish blue!

Two person job we just lifted it up and bolted it in. Did a cut and shut on the wiring loom, less the central locking! Ours is an executive model series II, this one doesnt have the central locking mechanism. Might have to change that over though cause we need to change the lock barrel or we wont be able to lock it.

We needed to replace the whole tailgate as there was damage right next to and part of the window frame which would have made it impossible to replace the glass only.

On the up side, our rear wiper arm had been missing since we bought it 3 years ago and now we have one!

Now we just have to fix the roof lining the kids have assisted in causing it to drop, very embarrasing!

PS: A windscreen guy quoted us $160 for a replacement 2nd hand rear glass only. The wreckers charged us $160 for the whole tailgate, glass and all. New glass was quoted at $295 fitted ouch. It pays to shop around.

The only difference between the tail gates I know of is the mid mounted stop light. Early VN's didn't have them

VN-S are all the same metal.

I think the VR/S may have the washer jets in a different position tho.
