    Default End of VP's life

So to make a long story short, was driving perfectly, i then stopped turned it off had a look at someones car, after i had finished that started my car up and heard a loud rattling from inside the motor, proceed to do a u turn and then it kept rattling so i turned it off and rolled down the hill.

Im pretty sure its the end of that motors life.

Anyone know what it could be, will save me pulling the whole thing apart

lol i love these thread its so hard tell someone what it is over the net and rattling could be a myriad of different noises.
Best its timing chain and or tensioner
    next balance shaft bearing
last and worse what happened to my vp camshaft bearings spun and chewed the shit out of the camshaft

    those are my 3 guesses
You could still drive it if it were the above but itd get worse if it was the cam die soonish

could very well be the camshaft bearings, deffiantly sounds like a bearing being F***ed and yeah still acts like i can drive it but dont wanna make anything worse.

Hopefully its camshaft and thats it, ill get a regrind in there and new bearing and she'll be happy as larrry.

    Thank god for that

Hopefully it IS the harmonic balancer - it's the cheapest problem from the list

Good luck with the bolt. I think they're pretty bloody tight and a bugger to undo.

the trick is to use a 22mm socket and long breaker bar and wedge it behind the chassis on passenger side and crank the engine over and it undoes it.

Any she is now home back at my place and im very happy.
