Default Wrong CAS, will it work with different Harmonic Balancer?

I have a Commodore V6 in my Landcruiser which I thought was from a VR but now that I've gone to change the CAS it looks like it has the early CAS design, which is weird because it has the fuel rail and thermostate housing from a VR!

I order a CAS from Ebay Australia for the VR and now that I've finally got the Harmonic Balancer off I see its completely different. ie the new one is all black and has a thicker centre 'post' on the end so won't fit into the slot of the Harmonic Balancer

Now since Im in NZ it would probably be easier to fit another Harmonic Balancer than ordering another CAS, can someone please confirm if there will be any issue with this? Also confirm which pulley/balancer I will need (i assume VR onwards since the Ebay auction said it'll fit any of them).

    Thanks.

yeah itd be cheaper to replace cas with older style one than purchasing a new balancer. Though buying a new balancer is a good ides. Get the vr style balancer.

If you tried that cas and balancer combo you have now it will destroy the cas you have.

late vn, vp and vr engines are hard to tell apart.
I would expect you to have vn or vp as the conversion would be easier.
no electronic gearbox stuff and bcm trouble.

    Question

Was going to ask what a cas was but did a ebay search and found it was a crank angle sensor, so many abbreviations so little time!!!
