Hey , first post on here basically ive got a 4 runner with a vp V6 and 4 speed commodore auto box , transmission is flogged out and im after a rebuilt one , is there any good places i should look ?
i am in sydney myself but can pay freight from interstate .
local trans place reckons $2200 for an exchange box including labour but ive got mechanical know how myself and access to a workshop and a mate is licenced mechanic at that workshop.
how much should i be looking at paying ,
also im after reputable places , had expiriences in the past when they tell you sure its rebuilt and its not and you cant do squat about it !
thanks guys hopefully i can learn a thing or 2 off this great site about my motor !
look around i wouldnt pay more than $1500
if you can do your self it wouldnt cost more than $500 with new converter
$2200 is a rip, but that depends what work is done to the trans?
I paid $1600 for a full rebuild of the t700
yeh currently looking for just a palce to get a reco box from or exchange reco and fit it myself , the initial $2200 price is with labour to remove and fit reco box
in adelaide city dismantlers do exchange overs if that helps
I got a rebuilt auto, new converter, stage 2 shift kit, corvette servo, other assorted heavy duty internals fitted (I didn't have to lift a finger) for $1950 from Allstates Transmissions on Port Rd in Adelaide. They are Aus wide though... Customer service is crap, but they don't do a bad job.

you might as well do a manual conversion, its the perfect time to.
You're probably wondering where you are. I'll tell you where you might be. You might be in the room that you die in. This is your wake up call.
I wouldn't pay any more than $800 for a rebuilt auto or $1200 for a manual kit. pain in the a*#e if you don't have access to that workshop though. a lot of stuffing around inside the car as well as out. I've changed to a manual myself but i wouldn't recommend it. especially in a 4 runner.
I'm sure you could find a second handy for 50-100 buck or a whole car for 300 bucks but if you can afford a rebuild then just concider the value of you car!
