    Default VN Joys

Alright, well I have this VN sitting in the shed which Im trying to fix up and get a roadworthy for. Today I thought I would inspect why the gear selector feels sloppy. Jumped under the car and had a look at the linkage rod. Yep looks alright but wait, theres movement between the linkage lever and bolt/shaft on the box! Im guessing thats not normal. I tried to tighten the bolt but its tight enough as so it looks like either the lever or shaft could be worn. There is nothing in my gregorys even mentioning it.

Im not really fussed as I will be ripping the auto out once its on the road and sticking in my T5. Im just worried that it might not pass the pits. Thoughts?

Btw, found another nasty while I was under there (see pics below). What is that bolt for? I was thinking seat but theres only one of them, and none on the passenger side. Yay for more welding! [/sarcasm]

    Cheers.

That looks like a seat mount or seat belt mount.

Turned out to be a seat mount. The mount on the passenger side was hidden under the cat guard lol but has no cracks . Anyway, took the bolt out, which was a tapered bolt that diddnt even reach the whole way... hmm previous owner must have had a screw loose himself. Just another thing to get at the wreckers .

Anyway, pushed it all back in place. Seems scissor jacks have another use besides roadside emergencies and failing . Now just need to get someone to weld up the breaks. Or knock off the nut and weld a small plate in place of the nut, then tack the nut back onto that. Either way something will have to be done.

Still havnt figured out this transmission yet. I should just remove the bolt and lever and look for wear but dont want to break anything while trying to undo it . Plus its in an awkward spot .

May as well keep all problems to one thread.

I was wondering why there was an external fuse holder dangling from the fuse pannel. Looked a bit closer and saw 2 slots have been heat affected, well one was completely melted. Hence why someones rigged up an external fuse holder to a vacant slot. I pulled the pannel out for a further inspection. I found a wire hanging loose - from the other melted slot. Looks like im going to have to use another external fuse.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? I have NEVER seen this happen to a VN+. The majority of fuses were the incorrect rating. But only 5A give or take. Unsure if thats to blame. The melted slots was for parkers and heater controls/AC btw.

On another thought. Is it possible to replace the fuse pannel? Or not really worth it? Looks like alot of work...

Because the auto V6 has different crankshaft bolt pattern to the manual V6 crankshaft.... Its a **** of a change. Thats the worst thing about these V6's.

Wrong. That only applies to the Series 1 V6 found in early VN's. VN S2 onwards and even the ecotec (maybe even alloytec?) shared the same 8 bolt pattern.
