At the moment i just have the overhead interior light, and the one inside the glovebox. has anyone had experience with adding extra lighting, i'm not going for a pimped out rice burner look, just general extra lighting, im thinking around the foot wells, and something for the rear occupants. Ive noticed the calais had extra illumanation inside, but it appears i would either have to cut and modify my door trim, or buy complete door trim sets, any suggestions.......maybe if somebody has done this previously if they can upload some pictures with it..?
Calais/Statesman had globes in the footwells, and next to the rear "jesus handles", and under the centre console at the back, for rear footwells.
You could cut the necessary loom out of a Calais at the wreckers and patch it into your current car without much effort or expense.
The lighting in the doors is only activated when the door is open - not much use for what youre thinking of.

Get the sunnies holder and interior map light unit from a VT-Z and fit that. comes up a treat. Fit up in front of the mirror mount.
Thats all i want it for morton, is to come on while the doors are open. Like it does in the more upper spec model...I dont want to pimp my ride.....
my VN calais doesnt have lights in the footwells and at the back of the console, is this normal?
im hungry

I too am looking for extra interior lighting. I own a '98 VT S and im am really disappointed with lighting when the doors open. I couldnt care less about the glove box light cause it doesnt open when a door does. But i was thinking about mounting directional lights under front seats that will shine light towards the front and back. come time to sell it, take the lights out and dont mention any modifications you made to the underside of the seat. Front seat also being close to the door sensor you could leech power directly from sensor closest to the door your working on. Use LED's as they draw minimal current and shouldnt affect other lighting.
ive seen at repko, on ebay and auto lighting stores you can pick up LED strips for less than $50. i think these are approapriate and they dont "pimp your ride" which i agree on.
Yeah it's not to hard to add the extra lights. As Morton said, just get the lights and looms from a calais at the wreakers (VP and above) Make sure you also get as much of the loom as you can. Then tap it into the cars original wiring behind the fusebox under the dash. This way its fused as well. I've put all the extra lights into my car so any questions, just ask.
You can put the door lights into the standard trims, alot of stuffing around though. There is some pics in "My Ride" thead on the first page. Thats the lights added to the standard VN exec trims. If you really want them, I recommend just getting the statesman door trims. That way they will fit.
ya VP calais is friggen lights galore, good when ur working on the car with a door open, drains the battery quick smart
Theres 1 in each front footwell as well as in each rear footwell, glovebox, in the center console, center dome light with map lights, 1 in each door then the rear entry lights above each rear door then boot light.
i think that covers it, possibly drivers side glovebox, but i dont think so.
No lights in drivers side glovebox. But you could also add the light thats under the passenger sun visor. Comes in handy for the missus.
