Is it a genuine VN SS Group A???

I just recently got given a VN Commodore V8 and i was told that its a Group A, it needs a bit of work done to it. I have a passion for my commodores, and know quite a bit about them.
However, I want to know how to make sure it is a genuine Group A and not just something thats been modifed to look like one, what are the specifications about a Group A to tell the difference, i tried to find out info on the net but its not giving me what i want to know!

If you have any information or any websites that would be of use, it would be greatly appriciated

225 wide tyres are a start.
look at the compliance plate and check the coades and maybe ring hoden to ask.

what colour is it? i think the only colours that came out in was atlas grey and the other reddy/maroon type

VN Group A SSs only came in Duriff red. There were 302 made, 2 of which were repainted by a dealer for the Bathurst promo (win a car for you and your mate or something)
All were manual with the ZF 6 speed (one auto specially built for a guy with one leg)

ALOT of the parts on the car were model specific, so that should be the giveaway.

Post pics and we'll be able to tell for sure!

Duriff Red.

The 2 black ones were resprayed. They will still have the duriff red paint code (being a competition respray)

I heard on the grapevine too that there was one white one, kept by Holden.

Should have a S6-40 6 speeder in it to be a geniune thing.

Twin throttles, yank the tappet covers, pretty sure the real deal had crane roller rockers (anodized gold in colour?)

etc etc etc

Group A rules stated ALL had to be identicle. (Same with Walkys) So the white one you mention would not be a road going version.

Group A Rules were dropped, which is why the full 500 weren't made, and why one could be mate auto.

I figure if you need to ask if it's a real group A then it isn't one. There's so many special parts on the thing that there's no mistaking one. Plus there would be lucky to be 5 of them that are driven on the road more often than once each blue moon (I've never even seen one) (ever) so I don't see how one could come to the point of needing a fix up

I can tell you right now, if someone gave you this car, just like you said, then it is not a Group A.

He said it needs some love. Although what person would let a Group A get to the stage where it would only be worth giving it away.

Even just in parts they're worth plenty. The engine, or even just the twin throttle body manifold. Seat and interior. Just the steering wheel. Plus things like the entire genuine bodykit.
