Hey all,
My engine recently broke down, piston conrod broke, damaged the block and broke all big end bearings. This was in a 1993 VR acclaim. I just bought a VP v6 to use all the parts to fix mine. Im just wondering if everything i need will go straight in?
My windscreen is cracked, so will the one from the VP go into the VR?
All the windows are tinted, so will they fit in the VR?
If anyone knows any problems i may encounter when swapping the engine etc over please let me know.
yes glass will fit.
engine will also fit but you will want to use the wiring harness that is in the vr.
The vp auto is a little different though, it's mechanical not electronic.
A good idea while you got it all stripped is to replace alternator power wire and starter motor power wire.Alternator wire is to small and the other will have all the insulation flaked off it.
So, i should put the vp motor in the vr, and use the old vr wiring harness?
The transmission in the vp has just gotten a new torque converter. The vr one is still stock, Which one should i use?
Any help is much appreciated
Eddie
yes vp engine into vr.
when you remove tranny unbolt the converter from the flex plate BEFORE unbolting transmission from engine. When assembling bolt transmission up first then bolt converter to flexplate.
You would be best of to get the model numbers of both transmissions and ask a trans specialist if you can swap them.
I would just drop the vp engine into the VR using the VR harness (less issues). The VR engne has a cam angle sensor and knock sensor that the vp doesn't but with a little work can be added to the VP motor. Alternatively you could get your memcal reprogramed to run without these sensors.
On the negative side the VP engine is not the same as the VR engine (they just look the same). The VR engine runs higher compression and there are many internal differences. All up though you could get your memcal reprogramed to suit the VP engine as it will be ping, ping on the VR tune.
They also are legal issues with running a VP enigne in a VR as legaly you are not allowed to run a older model engine in a newer car.
Never be afraid to try new things; remember amateurs build the ark while professionals build the Titanic.
Thanks for all the help guys.
SO would you recommend putting the new torque converter on my old vr transmission? Thats if they are compatible right?
It also has a brand new reconditioned radiator on it, still had the box in the boot which it come in. Will there be any problems with that going in the vr?
I pretty much have a complete vp commodore, minus the motor, radiator, and probably the torque converter. I dont want to change the subject, but if anyone needs the odd piece off the vp, send me a PM.
