Default VN Auto Shifter Knob Removal

I was looking at replacing the grubby one on my VN for a very clean VS one seen in the wreckers the other day.

How on earth do you get them off the shifter?

Do you have to take the whole shifter out and swap it all over or can you remove the shifter knob some how?

Doesn't it unscrew? like twist the knob clockwise or counter clockwise?

    Edit
LOL sorry didn't properly read the OP dumbass, though it was for a manual not an auto

Just give it a wriggle and pull as hard as you can. Its the same as removing the handbrake man.

Look for a leather one man!

Pretty much from what i've gathered, but it doesn't line up with the centre console so you need to modify the plastic surround.

so in theory, just replace that and the rest is fixing that surround?

i think that could be fairly easy (well modifying plastic is easier then modifying a shifter)

I have a new shifter knob on my auto

I was asking today at a wrecker if they would fit one - he grabs a unit off the shelf and 5 seconds later he hands it to me ready to fit to my car. Stunned.

Took me 5 mins to have it all swapped over and cleaned up.

New gear knob status = fail.

The spikes on the shifter tube are no longer holding the knob inplace.

I tried a little silicone last night but it gave way first thing. Super glue next........

Super glue works very well. I put a VS leather knob on one of my VNs, and doesn't move a mm
