HELP - Before i throw the ECU out the window and burn the car (ALDL)

Hi,
Ive tried so much to get this stupid thin working that im almost bald now from pulling my hair out.

I cant get a reading on the pc or laptop with Winaldl.
Things ive tried.

2 different schematics of serial to aldl.....
purchased 1 guaranteed to work cable......

Tried to my pc using rs232 and rs232 to usb
Tried to a old laptop i picked up running windows 98SE to rs232 but still no joy.

I tested for voltage etc on the plug and tried external power...


Is there anyting i can try or do.

Car info.
Holden Commodore VP V6 - ECU memcal 808.

I have just purchased a eprom programmer and want to do my own tweaking but need to get data first to see whats going on..

Most of the time it's hangup is the USB connection.

Disable anything on the lappy using a usb slot (internal modem)
Try deleting the USB driver and re install.

move ya pc to the window, drive the car to the window, poke a hole in the fly screen and do that

FYI to others. It turns out the problem i had was the engine is in a 4runner and i didn't have the check light wired to the dash. As soon as i put a led direct to the terminal the data started flowing. Wonderful.

haha yeah you need the check engine light as thats where the power comes from that the cable senses
