I was told by somebody yesterday, that the Auto shifter, can be modified, something to do with the lockouts on it, so you can manually put it back to second, without having to pull the tab, as it would otherwise just move back to third. Does anybody know about this, this guy also told me that the police cars were modified in this way, although i think he was pulling my leg. I've searched the net and didn't come up with anything -
yeh you gotto pull the shifter off and get a grinder onto it, just grind off the step bit for 2nd gear and put it all back together, ive seen a few people do it

I thought that some of the BT1 commodores had this option.

What about the bit of the story about police cars and this being done, is that part just another myth?
mines a bt1 and i can do this - i can go from overdrive, drive , 2nd without lifting the tab -
its awesome for fast cornering lol - massive lockups round cornors
and awesome for your auto by the sounds of it!
i know people that take the springs out of the auto shifter so you dont need to hold it up. quite silly really considering its not hard to knock them from D to R..
yeh it takes practise - i dont do it very often but am gettin pretty good at goin through the gears both up and down one at a time - like anyone though its hell hard - need a B & M shifter lol
it is not an option for BT1/9C1, it is STANDARD in BT1/9C1 Auto's.
Every single Police Pack issued car that is auto will have this feature..
Considering ive posted this info here twice in the last 4 days and the info is readily available on the net, you cant have looked too far.

The swear filter is there for a reason by the way.

it stops you dropping it back to first gear. If you lift the tab you can shift to far down, causing a few problems.

Exatly if you wanna quickly shift back to second, without the possibility of accidently selecting 1st-
Yes they are both true...........
I'm pretty sure i have read a thread in the last couple days about it
(btw i wouldn't try and avoid the swear filter)
haha that happened to me when the tab thingy got stuck half way, and didnt lock into gear, I accidentally tapped it into reverse at about 80 then quickly back into drive (heart was beating like a mofo as soon as i noticed)....
I don't know how much damage i would of done if it engaged reverse but meh!lol
double post...............
just searched again, couldnt find this topic anywhere, dunno maybe im not type something in properly, just wish that when you ask a question ( even after ive stated that ive searched and couldnt find anything) people wouldnt get hasty in their reply's.. i dont understand the need to put other people down about something, their just another fellow motoring enthusiast, trying to get some helpful info...

A national police car?
People who've been around for a while just get sick of answering the same question 10 times over. The search isn't best, but Google does a fair job. The "check if already posted" button is useful too.
Most people start off being very helpful, but the unlucky 100th customer who asks something that's been explained that many times before will cop a bit of flak. It's just how it is.
