level 3 conversions - not usual question

ive just completed a level 3 conversion and everything works beautifully , including the interior light and delay...

now for the 1 problem ---

on the overspeed i have no chime function- the spd light lights up but no chime..

did some searching found out possible some early model clusters had no speaker where the old reset button should sit

mine does not have one - does anyone know if i can put one any where there and what to connect it too - otherwise i guess im off for newer cluster or live with it

the chime is built into the cluster on the l3. To my knowledge there is no wire outside that to cut into and add a chime. At best you can pull the cluster apart and try to addone, but it is going to be easier to just swap a new one in.

yeh from what ive sorta figured out so far vn s1 level3 dont have one - looks like i lucked out - waiting for shane to message me back - may be a simple fix which i can then help anyone else out with - from wht he describes im looking for 2 small holescentre bottom on PCB with which a small lead comes off and the speaker is on that.

My PCB has this small holes (I think) and am waiting to see if they are it - if so easy fix just solder one in

Sorry to say - you have an early PCB. VP cluster will have it (chime provision) as will a VQ unit.

They also have press remote instead of REV.

right so i take it the speaker doesnt just connect directly to those 2 holes - i cant solder one on there

It's more like a solid type thing with 2 prongs on 1 end and a little hole on the other end - mabe 2mm in dia. You may be able to solder the chime PCB bit on to your cluster - but would it still chime?

ok well we r gunna try a lil experiment - 88greenvn is gunna send me a chimer and the bit that goes with it - ill try to connect it to this and if it works cool - those without have a chanced of upgrading again lol - make a level 4 upgrade hahah - if it doesnt oh well

we will have to wait an see

Gee, I remember when I put mine in the VP and I purposely tried to find that thing and remove it. There was some issue that the cluster thought the handbrake was always on and would chime. But the light wouldn't come on unless the handbrake was actually on. So much better once it was gone.

Your not alone on this one I have quite a collection of chimes from left over clusters.

I have (last count 17 of them). I use them to magnitize the screw driver's and touque bits

is it that annoying you guys stop them from workin lol - im just pedantic about making everything work - and now i got my VE spec v8 brake package to install on top of everything else lol
