Just wondering who you guys use for lifters. The missus' VN has an intermittent sticky lifter where it starts ticking and misses at the same time. The ticking stops and so does the miss. Am going to change the lifters but thought may as well do the timing chain and maybe throw a cam in too. Runs on straight LPG, any recommendations?
Mate that sounds suspiciously like a plug/plug lead miss rather than a lifter, more common on LPG too cos it needs a bit more energy to get a spark going. Might sound silly but watch it in the dark, you'll see it tracking.
Bugger me i opened me gob :-)
No, it is a definite lifter tick. It only misses when it ticks. It comes in intermittently after it's been on a long run.
chuck a bottle of lifter flush through it probably gunked up
I tune the oldschool way fear on the passengers face and knuckle colour cant go wrong
tabbacco is still my favorite vegetable
I might do that first. It does roughly 300kms a day so I'll chuck a bottle of lifter free in it tonight and change the oil tomorrow night.
After two days of driving 140km there and 140km back, it still ticks. One of the lifters may have shit itself.
Mate do your plugs and leads first.
vn/vp's lifters have to be REALY BAD before the engine would miss.
If injector free has not fixed it then it is most likley not the problem.
If you are going to do lifters cam and chain then just get a new engine.
Just about have to lift engine out to do that.
Update.
Yesterday fitted new leads and plugs, changed the oil and filter while we were at it.
2 leads showed no restistance, one lead was cracked and burnt with evidence of tracking.
However.....the ticking and the miss returned after about a 5 minute drive. Coasted in neutral and gave it a couple of revs, did nothing. Back down to 2nd, booted it up to 80kmh and the ticking stopped and she ran on all 6.
When it starts ticking you can hear it inside the car above the stereo....it's pretty damn loud.
You'd have to say sticky lifter for sure

check your injectors for the couce of the noise now.
THey can be very loud.
Not THAT loud. I have noisy injectors, they are not that loud.
Do your lifters I say, and throw in a little cam, whatever you can find. a 992a seems to be a good choice for a cam and springs only upgrade, or you can have a chat to Jason (greenfoam) and ask him nicely for the ideal cam specs if you feel like getting a custom grind. Either way you go (I'd say 992a may be cheaper) Jason will be able to help you out for a tune I'm sure.

The injectors on this car are very quiet, completely noiseless in fact. Because they aren't plugged in. The car is dedicated LPG, doesn't even have a petrol tank.
Ticking is less frequent after a couple of days now but it is still there and it misses when it ticks. A new set of lifters and a timing chain are on there way and we are thinking of chucking in a stage two Crow cam.
Also researching LPG tunes. There is a seller on Ebay that will do an LPG memcal for $139.....Can foamy do LPG tunes?
Ask himHe seems to be the sort of person who'd be up for a challenge!

hey man i had a lifter tick aswell not as bad as urs tho, on the lifter free bottle it said after 14 days if no improvenemnt its most likely a mechincal problem and is safe to leave in there to next oil change, so ya shuda left it in your oil longer
anyway good luck man![]()
Interestingly, yesterday it did the entire return trip without the tick. This morning I was told that it went all the way up running the best it has for a long time. Hmmm....changed the oil to Penrite HPR 10 gas. I will continue to monitor it.
