Hello braking system gurus, I have a VN s1 V6 with:
stock rear brakes
drilled and slotted front rotors (stock size - 270mm)
stock front callipers
I also have a set of VS BT1 V6 finned callipers. How do I know if they will fit? They came with brake pads, if those are the same size as my pads is it all fun times and laughter?? Or are there other pitfalls I need to look out for?
Also, quick question, I've cleaned up the callipers with acid etc, they are clean enough I think.. I'm going to paint them silver. I have some silver pressure pack Engine Enamel in the shed. I assume this will work, however I wonder can I then clear coat over the top? Does it need to be high-temp clear or just normal? (I don't know how much the callipers heat up.. but given the cooling fins I'd say a fair bit!)
Thanks
Sam

wont you need to upgrade to bigger rotors? 290mm i think

yep, will need to upgrade to 290mm rotors, wont work with the 270's....
with painting id say just go down and buy some engine enamel/brake paint or something, painting them with just the paint "should" be fine but i cant garentee 100%
if they dont fit can i have them back sammy
i will measure the discs in the morning to compare
Thanks Paul. And yes, you can have them back if they won't fit haha
Padrickz88, read more carefullythe silver I have in the shed IS engine enamel
It's the clear coat that isn't.

The calipers are the same as the stockers anyway (they run the same pad) all they are for is the bigger rotors. You can do a pad upgrade by running a pad from......... something I forgetsearch hakhawks VN Wagon thread and you'll see
so, if I mount the finned ones on my 270mm, will they work? Or will the pad run off the outside edge (presume that'll be the case)
Cheers

oh shit! lol dont worry about the clear, it will be fine.... just throw on as many coats as possible and it should be fine![]()
Sounds like a plan.. now if only someone can tell me they will fit![]()

Only 2/3 of the pad will be on the rotor, when they wear down the pads touch = danger = death! You need to buy new rotors to match the calipers
(someone replaced the stock rotors on my ute with the smaller ones - I found out by changing the pads they had a huge lip on them)
With the paint you dont even need high temp - ive painted hundreds of sets with normal enamel and its all good
and i was told its hq pads that can be modded to fit?
Japanese scientists have created a camera with such speed that they now can photograph a woman with her mouth shut!
The caliper will sit further out on the rotor so the outer part of the pad (it is only about 5mm, not 1/3 of the pad) will not contact the rotor. You will need the larger rotors for the finned calipers to work correctly.
Righto, cheers!
290mm rotors, easy swap? Will it ruin pedal feel if I don't change the booster/master cyl?

they will be fine. VP onwards use them fine with a 15/16 booster.
