double, looks bog stock to me, dampers are a flat spring thing inside the outer thicker spring,

some of the early vn's were true double some have a dampner if its round double springs if its a flat sided coil dampner

I'm just guessing this, but it makes sense that the very early VN's with cam that had more lift runs these springs. And the cam change came later also with single springs. Would be a easy way to identify the early motor if that's what happened

awesome. cheers guys, I've been hearing/reading a lot of crap about the dampeners / doubles / s1 vns lately.. I think I'll settle with this being the true story

Now I need to learn about LN4 and EV6

Should have kept the doubles for peace of mind with the new motor, too much work to change them now though so the VR engine can keep its singles

the best choice would be crow single springs with the dampeners,

    from memory they're around $60 for a set of 12, and $88 for a set of 16 (v8)

the v6's benefit from the thicker valve springs, helps things out in the post 5000rpm range

see this video (cant find the one im after)
YouTube - PAC Racing Springs BEEHIVE Valve Spring Testing

with too much spring movement the valve can wobble from side to side and still be moving when it is next to be compressed which can cause some issues, not to mention it puts less strain on the drive train

Yes thats one weird thing about v6's (buick style and ecotec) is that there is nothing retaining them at the base unlike v8's and 90% of other heads which means theres plenty of room for them to move around. Make fitting double valve springs easy but its not like they need it

I'll stick with the stock springs that are already in the rebuilt motor. CBF changing them now, and I won't be raising the stock limiter anyway.
