Hey, just wondering how much a vn or vp 5 litre v8 costs and how much work would i have to do to put it in a vn that used to have a v6?
Could 2 cams be able to fit into a vn or vp 5 litre v8?
unless you're doing the conversion yourself, it'll be cheaper to buy a car which already has one in it. a lot less troubles too.
also it's a single cam engine.
Hey, just wondering how much a vn or vp 5 litre v8 costs:
$1500 with transmission and loom and K frame, plus extra for V8 brakes and suspension.
and how much work would i have to do to put it in a vn that used to have a v6:
Give yourself a week if you know what you're doing, and a month if you have no idea.
Could 2 cams be able to fit into a vn or vp 5 litre v8:
You can put as many cams in there as you want, but they'll just bounce around and break stuff.

Just buy one that already has one, much easier.
Does anybody know if i be able to get a vn or vp with a vp for 2 and a half grand in SA? How big is the largest cam for a 5 litre v8?
You can't get a VN with a VP. You can only get a VP with a VP. And the only way to find out if you can get a VP for that price, is to LOOK. eBay, Carsales, trading post, actual car yards... there are a lot of ways to find out. This information doesn't just magically happen.
You'll find they're all the same size - roughly 21⅜" long, and 1⅞" in diameter at the bearings.

mate you are asking stupid question so YOU have to look around like morton said and in those places. You CAN"T fit extra cams to a engine, they are made as a integal part of the engine so can only me changed over for one of the right type.
A large cam (refers to valve timing and duration that valves are open) will NOT run in a standard engine. If you were to try you would have borken valve springs, rocker arms nd maybe valves hitting piston.
If you do not understand this then you are to STUPID to won a commodore go buy a ford.
what's a good exhaust system to go with a 304 v8, a lukey performance exhaust or some thing else that's about 3 inch to 3.5 inch?
Which actually sounds better on a 304 v8 a 2.5 inch, a 3 inch, or 3.5 inch exhaust system? How much would it cost all up, probably around 1500?
Everyone has different tastes in exhaust note, some like the crispy sound of a 2.5 inch single, some like the deep 3 inch singles, some like the growl of a twin system. Price can be anywhere fom 20 bucks to 2500
I smell a troll.
But on the off-chance that you're just not quite all there, the best exhaust for a vn with a vp and two cams, is probably just a single 2.5".

Ok highjack timeI have a VP Everything standard, V6 auto ect ect. Now i've had it for a little while, and even though it wasnt the V8 i had wanted, it wasnt an option at the time. But, it will however be an option in the near future.
Is it really a lot cheaper and easier to just sell it and buy the car i want, or it unreasonable to want to build it. I ask because i've become quite fond of the car , and it's overall condition. View in my ride..."Big Girl"![]()
There's nothing wrong with a projectIf you want something to do, and you don't mind having the car off the road for a couple of weeks, there's nothing wrong with dropping a V8 into your current car.
People will tell you not to, and that it's cheaper just to buy a V8, but don't listenThey're right - granted - but then where's the fun in that?
Take me for example - I bought a Statesman, and I'm downgrading it below Executive level. No aircon, no power steering, no sound deadening... I should have bought a HQ Kingswood, right? But where would the fun be in that?
You can buy a crashed V8 for about $1500 - $2000 depending on whether you want a manual, and rip all the running gear out. Swap it into yours, and strip the wrecked car for spare parts.

Thanks Morton, and yeah a lot of people have said to me in the past just take the cheaper and quicker option, but hey, i like my car!! I've gotten to know it, and i know it's good point and bad points now. If i go and buy another car, already with a V8 manual (gotta be manual or it aint worth doing!!) then i feel as though i would be starting all over again. To the drawing board it is then![]()
Is getting a hsv 185 kilowatts v8 engine better option then getting a vn or vp v8 that's only 165 kilowatts and putting 2 turbos and a cam into the hsv engine? How much louder is a hsv 185 kilowatt v8 compared to a normal 304? If i get a hsv 185 kilowatt and put a cam and ad a 2.5 inch exhaust would that get me unwanted attention from the guys in blue?
I want to have tips out both sides, instead of a normal single tip, how much would one cost?
this "185 killowats engine ' is just a memcal upgrade / knocksensor / and hsv headers and a cold air intake that makes that extra 20kw .. they dont sound no diferent from what i know . and a proper exhaust can cost ya from 500-2500 depending on what u want . mild steel / stainless
yeah dude same motor!!! and seriously 2 turbo's and a cam, what's next NOS?? and what's this going into a VN/VP? seriously dude if you had that kind of money to be throwing around you'd be driving around in something much, much nicer.
-Please buy a ford, you are to stoopid to own a commodore.
ok you want v8 on a budget but a little better.
which ever one you get cheap.
cold air intake
extractors.
standard exhaust
high flow air filter
a good eprom to run it.
Any more power then that and you will wreak a perfectly good commodore.
o yeah get medical insurance, you sound like the type of person who would have a nice flash car and not know much about, then plant the foot in the wrong sport and cut a power pole of at ground level.
I dont know who that was directed at now......
Going by centy's original comment, I'd say OP.

I really like a vp calais international, but they are like pretty rare, only 300 were made and they had ss and caprice options. Doesn't matter what sort of car i'll be getting, it will have a 304 v8 and will be either a vn to vs model. The parts that will be going into the car will be, a 2.5 inch exhaust with hi flow cats and pacemaker extractors, either a crow cam or a crane 288 solid cam for that lumpy sound, a vortech supercharger or two turbos, more likely a supercharger. Interior will be black with fusion car audio stuff like 6x9's, subs, amps, fusion mp3 cd tuner and a momo steering wheel. I'd be happy with around 300 kilowatts to 450 kilowatts at the wheels , either way this car will be a daily driver when i'm finished with it and will be treated with respect, which means i won't be doing any street racing, burnouts or donuts in it. The colour of the car will be metallic red or black, haven't decided that yet.
lol, clearly you're not serious. if you want 300 to 450(!!!!!!!)kw at the wheels, try adding a couple of trailing zeros onto your budget.
i don't even know how possible this is out of a 304 anyway. 383 maybe. and you're not talking a daily driver.

Do you like getting flamed mate?? Your telling us what an International is.......And then if you did get an International (personally i don't think any International owner would sell it to you!!) you'd be happy with 450 KW at the wheels...!!!
Seriously buy a Hyundai Excel. There not all that bad, for 1 .5 Twin Cam....And there's plenty of off the shelf Turbo kits to suit them, which will give you enough power to hose a stock 304......
mate are you crazy you want 450rwkw i just built a ls1 ad it aint making 450rwkw and it cost about 16 grand its only N/A no forced induction so i dont kow how in the world your going to fund this project because i can tell you now getting 450rwkw will not be a cheap process and you will not be able to keep it realiable enough to have as a daily driver thats for sure
{H1GHROLLR} CHEMICALLY SUPERCHARGED A.K.A NITROUS FED R8 CLUBBY and {HYPED UP} TWIN TURBO VX SS DAILY
I smell a troll.
