Been asked to appraise a VN executive.
It has a/c and power steering.
Interior, engine bay and body are immaculate.
This thing has been garaged ALL of it's life when not being used.
It has not seen a wet road.
The owner wouldn't even take it out on an overcast/cloudy day...
$3000.

I don't think you're qualified to give an opinion on that, VLV8
A car is worth what someone is willing to pay for it, and there's people out there who will be willing to pay $5000-$6000 for a mint stocker like that. It may not sell straight away, but I guarantee you someone will snap it up for $6k.

lol not sure why i wouldn't be....... like you say though it depends on what people want. In a car yard you'd be hard pressed to get a whole lot for it. I'd consider it a waste of a VN when they seem to love being flogged right up until 300000km's with little problem. Being barely broken in it might experience those teething problems we used to hear about when they first came out. I know i couldn't be ****ed dealing with that for an old commodore.
Yes, there would be people willing to pay more, but what would i know - i'm not qualified to comment on old cars.......

i honestly don't remember mate. Usual teething problems with a new run i guess - nothing like the EA of that era though.
In terms of a buyer - i notice you don't have a car right now.....
Honestly, wack it on Ebay - there are always people on there willing to fork out obscene amounts of cash for something they've been looking for for ages. at worst you put a 4 or 5k reserve and pull it if there isn't a bite.
Now I'm gunna have trouble sleeping - how much is it for sale for.....

I'm not interested in breaking the rules of this forum, so consequently, this is not a "For Sale" thread.
I am enquiring as to what it's worth, so I guess if you are interested in purchasing it, what would you pay ?
I'm seeking a ball park figure of what it's value is, and am happy if people are not comfortable enough to express it here, yet desire to PM me.
Hi Borked
It might depend on the car's actual age within the VN model cycle. There were three different V6's in the VN and the first one was a really rough old bag of nails - it sounded coarse and was inclined to vibrate a fair bit, although it would last for ever. The second version from late '89 was a bit better and the third was the VP engine which was quieter and slightly smoother running. This came out late in the VN production run.
Unfortunately, it's only an Exec, which diminishes its appeal. I'd agree with all the comments expressed above. $3k to a dealer who wouldn't give a stuff about its rarity and $5-6 to someone who did.
I will endeavour to get the vin number/build date and some pics.
well the standard insurance value for a vn/vp is $3500.
So worth more then that.
Yeah I paid 6g for one with 27,000km in complete unmolested original condition.
My new Time Capsule VN
There is one on car sales with around 50k on the clock and he wants no less than $10,000

There is also one on Ebay with just under 20k on the clock with a starting price od $8500
HOLDEN COMMODORE VN "19,163KS"GENUINE LOG BOOKS - eBay, Passenger Vehicles, Cars, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 03-May-09 20:30:00 AEST)
I would say also that it really depends on what someone is willing to pay. I have already had grieve off people on forums for paying $6000 for a VN. But I was willing to pay that much.
On another note the most I could insure mine for was $5750

Thanks to everyone offering assistance here.
It really is appreciated![]()
I dont think you can get much of an idea on the car's value by what people are asking for them atm, only what they actually get is relevant, $10000 is dreaming. Yes, ~$3000 is about it
As far as I see it, there is about as much appeal in having a brand new vn today as there would be in uncovering a brand new cassette deck, nobody wants one. The car is uninspiring in shape and a new one does everything so much better. Maybe in 20 years it could bring some value, just as a mint condition ht holden would bring today.
I've seen others in mint low condition sell for 6 grand (under 50k on them) so I believe you will get that price without any problem, why not everyone else does. Not sure if it would sell for 8 but you never know, start and 8 and see what happensbut I'm sure you will get 6. If its a 5 litre add 2-3 grand to all that and add another grand if its a manual
hey there,
vn's are nice cars, they started the ball rolling for all the v6 versions.
but on that note, there is a car yard in Adelaide, selling a VR Berlina, with only 120,000 km's for $6000, now Berlina had electric windows and ABS, and cruise control. But sadly they aren't selling it, no interest who knows.
If yours is a stock VN Executive V6 it would be for someone who really loved that model, had one for spares etc. I'd guess $3000 max for it. Most would want a calais/berlina.
If it's a V8, someone will just buy it for parts value
hope that helps.
A VN exec will have more value than a VR Berlina with the same K's that's not the same thing. VN exec are a desirable car. Someone that wants a mint body for a project 20-40 grand build will gladly pay 6 grand for the car, it's a money saving for someone like that rather thing fixing up a stuffed one. You guys suggesting 3 grand are way out of the ball park here
Hoooray for Greenfoam. Spot on with the mint-rebuild project idea.
