i got a blue vn calais, and i wanna replace my carpets, and paint my dash an all that shit, dunno what colour though, thinking white? any suggestions?http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/...42009-005-.jpg
You wanted suggestions, so here's mine- Paint is for the outside of the car, not the inside, it looks cheap and tacky, and no matter how well you do it, it will flake off sooner or later..There are far better options for a sprucing up a cars interior rather can whipping out a can of paint!! A Calais if it's in good nick,on it's own is a pretty nice place to sit your arse , and dosent need any further modifying.
Modifying a car can be great sure, but i've always thought it's best to keep a bit of originality about your ride. Why go ruining something that looked so good from the factory, and still does even 18+ years later..If your interiors in bad shape, maybe try and hunt down some replacement trims, and try and get it looking as clean and tidy as you can. VP Calais door trim inserts, or even some Statesman one's, are a nice upgrade to the VN's originals as they cover the entire armrest section, and are much more distinguished from the regular run of the mill variants...
Focus your modifying work to engine, suspension wheels ect. Even a nice respray, but please, don't paint your interiors. Also lend a thought as to when the time come's to wanting to sell your car. A mint calais, especially one with a well looked after interior, will be easier to sell, and will fetch far more, than a car which looks like it's been riced up by 17 yr old P plater !!
Install a VP/VR/VS console and headunit cover. There bigger and fatter and look soooo much better than the standard VN calais centre console. And if you can grap the whole thing, you can have a nifty cosole light, so you can find what your looking for at night.
Yeah - take our advice - don't paint it. I've known many people who have and NOBODY still liked it after a year. The only thing I would do, is MAYBE a black highlight down the centre console. I'll show you what I mean:
But aside from something simple like that, I wouldn't touch it. Even that wears away after time, and you have to pull it off every six months for a sand and respray.

I promise, if you respray the carpet white, it will not turn out well. Black will work nicely.

OP do you work in a Colgate lab or something?? What about when a nice girl wants to come for a ride, and you insist she takes her shoes off and wipes her feet before getting in, and that she has to sit on a towel..
But then she'll leak all over the seat, and nobody wants to clean THAT up.
>_>

yeah i know it will get dirty, i'd like to get a steam cleaner to keep the carpet nice :P + i dont wanna "respray" the carpet (didnt know i could??), i wanna replace the carpet, but i've heard of some kinda chemical dye for the vinyls, that like bonds to it and wont flake off, anyone else heard of anything like this?
You can use Vinyl Die, which works well, and if one properly, can last. A good test, any plastics that respond really well to armoural, will go well with vinyl Dye. So this is basically any soft plastics.. I would still advise against even doing this though...Its still gay...Ive said this before..
Painted interior= SERIOUSLY GAY!! and a serious FAIL at an attempt to modify a car![]()
