its time to slap a turbo on the old girl, as we all no its been dun before but i havent seen anything any where on how its been dun, so im going to post the things that ive dun to give people an idea if they are thinking of doing the same, im in no way saying that this is the best and only way of doing it, but this to me seems like the best way of doing it, i know alot of people have run the cross over pipe around the front of the motor but u have to remove or relocate the air con, if your like me i like my aircon , the good old Goldcoast weather ,
so my plan is to run the cross over behind the motor , under the gearbox up into a log style manifold ,ive used stainless steam pipe 3mm and 3mm mild steam pipe for the bends, i belive u can use just mild steam pipe is much cheaper then stanless and its still going to last a very long time , i paid about $10 for each bend
From what ive seen most people go with the straight runners , ive gone with bends to try and give the exhaust some direction, i dont know how much better it is but it makes making the manifold a bit harder to make, my goal with the stock engine is to try and make 400hp atw or 300kw between 10-15 psi,
Im still deciding on what turbo i want to use but i would realy like a to4z or gt4088, but im a bit short on cash at the moment im thinking of going with a proboost t04z style turbo, i know what some of u will say going with a chinesse turbo, ive always sed i wouldnt use one of these i just want to get the turbo on the car quickly as possible and i can always get a better one later, ive talked to Grant (proboost) and he has told me that i wont have any trouble with his turbos and if i do that he will either refund or exchange the turbo, anyway ill post some pics as i go, and if anyone has any ideas feel free to send them my way ,
here are some pics of the manifold , its not finished yet , I should have it dun by the end of next week

Should be a good read as you get further and further into it!
Im looking into a T04 for mine atm, but FI wount be happening for mine until jan next year me thinks
i shall be following this, looking forward to lots of pictures. i love pictures
i forgot to mention that ill be keeping the alternator in the stock location , its a tight fit but it can be dun
looking forward to photos for ideas
i have been talking to my dad and when i take my car off the road due to loss of licence i ganna twin turbo my 5l![]()
I NOTICE HOLDEN DESIGNED ITS BADGE ROUND DUE TO CIRCLES GO ON FOR EVER..
looking forward to readin about it! a mate and I are currently in the plannign stages of a T04Z 5L Ute. Turbo is in the mail already. The plan is almost exactly the same, except we are goint to chop up a set of old pacemaker extractors and graft them to the log. we were going to pass the drivers side gases into the back of a large log that collects each 4 passenger side ports as it goes past, then to the turbo. havent thought about where to mount the wastegate yet. it is mighty hard to find any pics of other peoples single turbo setups
this is excactly what im doing, the only difference is im using the flange off the stock exhaust manifold that come with the car , so i dont have to chop up my passenger pacemaker extractor, the reason im doing this is so i dont have to take my car off the road while im making the manifold up, and the best place to mount the waste gate is right near the turbo into the oncoming exhasust gas , this is emportant so u dont get boost spike, and the only problem with doing this is running a pipe from the waste gate back to the exhaust if u want to keep it leagal or u can just dump it, this is wat ill probly do coz it sounds sick
what size wastegate are you planning on using? ive got no idea, was just going to get a 50mm one as a guess and see how it goes...
i wouldnt use anything smaller then a 44mm , so 50mm is more then enough, i think ezy10performance kit uses a 38mm but i wouldnt be going that small on a 5.0L engine, the way it works the lower the boost u are running the more exhaust gas is passing through the gate, this is where if your gate is to small you will get boost creep witch is bad, but 50mm is fine, but make sure u buy a quality gate becuase boost controll is so important to having an engine thats going to survive, a few friends of mine have used the chinese copies and that have been ok , but sometimes they can leak on the flanges witch will cause u to lose power
i should have some pics up tomorrow night of the manifold nealy finished
good work on the manafoulds logs work geate on engines that dont do 9000rpm and they spool up quicker the spaghetti type ones just try bolt the head flange to something when you weld it up or it will warp and will never seal apart from that its not rocket science.love to see pics as you go thould be mad

MY TWIN TURBO VT V6
______________________________________
I found some nice pics of a setup on ebay that was sold a few months back...
COMPLETE TURBO KIT TO SUIT VN V8 HEADS - eBay Turbos, Superchargers, Performance Parts, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 07-May-09 11:37:17 AEST)
the only problem i can see with that setup is the waste gate is mounted along way from the turbo, thats just asking for trouble, and another thing , the dump pipe looks like it goesback down past the engine, from what ive seen its nealy impossible to do with a log manifold
well, didnt say the setup was nice, but at least in this one you can see where the pipes go... I beleive the dump pipe goes thru a hole cut in the guard and runs down the outside of the chassis rail.
i finaly got my turbo today, i decided on the gt35r with 1.06 rear, this should produce some neck snapping torque, also my manifold will be ready tomorrow , so ill post up some pics
GT35R....nice choice, Ive been looking at one of them myself, not too sure on a T04 or GT35R, seem to be a good choice with the 5L
yeah i was considering going to the t04z , its slightly bigger then the gt35 but the 35 has a proven record, and the t04z is a bit more expensive at $2000, i got the gt35 for $1650, anyway i got the log manifold finished , now its just the matter of bolting it up and mounting the turbo and connecting the manifold up to the drivers side, i should get that dun on the week end ,
Where did you source your turbo from mate?
MTQ in brisbane but i think there all over australia, Ray hall is another garret dealer and he knows his shit and hes priced the same as MTQ
MTQ? Sorry im from Adelaide bro, not up with the Brisbane lingo! lol
here are some more pics of the manifold, turbo and waste gate, tomorrow i should have the whole manifold finished
thats looking really good mate, i wish i knew how to weldplease keep updating this thread

"A life lived in fear is a life half lived"
there has been a bit of a change, im not using the manifold i have made becuase i will have to relocate the alternator, so ive takin it to a friend that does this thing for a living and hes made me one and just clears the alternator and it sits in the perfect position, i get the car back tomorrow with the turbo and waste gate bolted up so ill take some pics of the whole thing , the manifold looks alot different to the one i had made, im going to have the dump pipe and intercooler made up in the next couple of wheels
