1990 VN "S" Manual - First Car :D

Hey everyone im new here,
Ive just brought my first car a blue S series sedan, Manual
Loving it and only paid $750 for it.
needs a few little things done to get on the road. ive been qouted about 700 in parts.
ill post up everything it needs later.
Will be a fun little project as im automotive at tafe, and am hoping to do all the work either at home or at tafe with the help of my instructers.

Well the first thing is just to get it on the road.

but the big plans are
set of 18's or 19's
vn calais seats
amp the current speaker set up and install subs and another amp.


i need some help though with the door locks. when u put the key in the drivers door and turn it unlocks all four doors. when ur trying to lock the car by putting the key in the drivers door. it will lock all doors except the drivers.
so u cant lock the drivers door with the key.

so at the moment i have to open the back drivers side door and push down the drivers lock form the inside which locks all the doors so i can then shut it.

so all the locks are working correctly just for some reason the key wont lock the drivers door. any ideas why?

Why's it been dressed up as a VP? Would of looked awsome with the SS lips instead.

can only go 17s legally i personally prefer vp rear bar it alot cleaner around muffler leav it its clean i like

Yeah the previous owner had a vp front bar put on. in the futire ill probably change it back to a VN front Bar and Grill. ill wait though beacyse im tosisng up wether or nnot to spray the car a different colour.

Love the rear spoiler though, but its warped a tiny bit on one side, hopefully i can fix it.

yeah i can only go 17's legally but ill probably go 18's

id prob leav it and paint that bad not as bad as mine n paint aint cheap (or i wuld have mine painted by now) cops will love ur 18s unless u drive carefull more under the radar (not like me)
have a go at gettn rid of trolley strips
have u thort about makn it vp style bonnet struts
give the engine bay a good degrease

How do u go about removing the trolley strips?

yeah the cops will love my 18's but so will i, they will make the car lol ill deal with the attention lol itll be on the 16's till probably the end of the year though.

ive got a small oild leak, i think its from the sump. im hoping it passes road worthy with it. but it needs to be fixed regardless. is it costly?

also how hard is it to install vp bonnet struts? i saw a set on ebay for like 30 bucks. would be a heap better than the bar.

fishing line prepsol patience 4 the trolley strips there will be sikaflex(blak glue) behind them. i own a vp so bonnet struts not 100% sure, but u will need the flat style bolts the mounts and struts. search threads iv seen heaps of vns done good luck wif it i luv havn sumn to muk round wif in da bak yard im only 18 n dont have much cash

just a few updates

picked up some secondhand tail lights for 20 bucks.


also got another right head light. as the old one was buggered.
also a new garnish, (red one) which is int he tail light photo. it for sale so make me an offer.

i also picked up a new 2.5 inc muffler as my old one was badly rusted.
got it off a local guy for 45 bucks. said it was new never been fitted just been sitting in his shed for ages.

also just got my sway bar link rods and bushes and my rear upper control arms.


now i just need radius rod bushes, some front rotors, brake pads all round, strut tops, front shocks ( im looking at gabriels are they any good?), centre bearing and a windscreen.

then it should beon the road

yeah like ss front and rear bumpers and side skirts? i plan to do this in the future but after i get it on the road and get some nicer wheels and maybe some calais interior. so it will probably be after i turn 18 before it has a full vn ss.

hey everyone just an update on the vn, its all registered now loving the manual :P

just tried installing central locking lol was easy just replaces new motors into the old positions. put the new loom through. not working propoerly

check it out theres some pics and videos about whats happeing. i would love to get the remote central locking working!

anyway i also got 3 shadow chrome WH Grange 18's with near new tryes for 520 bucks!

one has a bit of rash, but two in excelent condition. i also brought 2 other grange wheels, there not shadow chrome but i plan to have them painted. got them for 250. tyres arent flash, but they came with a new set of hsv centers, them on there own are $120!.
all wheels are genuine ROH hsv wheels

i just sat them next to the car to see what they would look like what you's reckon?

the radius rod bushes were about 40 bucks i think.

got them off ebay. seem really good, way better that the flogged out rubber ones.

Finnaly an update! sorry i havent been able to find my camera.


I have been busy at work, pulled the entire dash out as i brought a vq stato one, i have fitted that and wired up a lvl 3 dash

i have recovered the rooflining in proper black rooflining fabric from nolans, came up good as phots dont do it jutice.

Installed my new headunit and brought my amp for the splits
still have to install wiating to fix a few bootleaks

got a volt guage, and a cai off the commodore im wrecking, i also got a new pwr steeringrack all which needs to be installed.

I picked up a 2005 vy exectutive front passenger and rear seat. they are getting installed this weekend. im buying a racing seat or the drivers side.

Ive got electric window regs and some rear switces, and electric mirrors ll which need to be installed after i peice together the rest of the parts.

and im getting new tyre for the 18's as well as getting one wheel painted in shadow chrome.
I have also done the carpet and most otther plastics in vht black, has come up a treat:

The cars come along way but theres still alot left to do!

I have got 5 Grange 18's now, 3 in shadow chrome, 1 powdercoated hyper silver, and ne in bare alloy.
im getting the bare one done in proper shadow chrome and new tyres on all five.

The tyres i have on there are brand new basicall but they came with the wheels and are all different tread patterns.
