Update, I guess. Looks like its off to chassis heaven. Ive got the green light to buy a cheap work/daily run-around car and find a new chassis to rebuild the VN in, on the condition that once Ive stripped everything I want off it I get it taken away asap, which is fair enough. And that way I wont be sad looking at it. It had a good 6 months in my possession.
I have no idea where Im going to find the time but one day, it will be back and better than ever.![]()
mate im going to be doing the same thing as you except mi car is $1250 and i love the idea of putting a manual in it ..;..
Its the way to go, until you stack it. Ah well should be heaps easier second time around. Just going to pull the motor and box as one and stick it in a new shell. Much less bolts lol
Oh, and if Im lucky I should have a daily by the end of the week or some time next week. Its getting a roady done today apparently so see what happens with that. Its a 1990 5-speed pulsar hatch hehe. Dont be hatin'
...then I can start rebuilding my life.![]()
yeah but the pulsar be saving ur cash to fix ur vn true .... was it hard to get your car roadwothy with the manual conversion ... and wheres the best place in the valley
cheers m8
Roadworthy wasnt a problem. Its all factory spec (apart from the clutch) so theres no reason why it would be a problem. Even when re-registering the car at vicroads I told them that its now manual and they changed the cars details without question.
Umm I got the roady though my mates-dads-mate in lilydale but still I got knocked back for a leaking steering rack and front tyres that werent even down to the wear indicators (already replaced the rears caus they were down to the belts). So as far as I know theres no real dodgy place to get one around here lol
Sux to here about the accident in the vn mate. Cant wait to see wat ya do with the new one. Modified cars always take all our moneybut its worth it
haha cheers. As much time and money as they take it keeps me happy and sane. So in saying that its well worth it.
Well I had my heart set on another VN but it sold before I was ready. Had fresh white over silver paint, full electrics, factory sunroof, uncut parcel shelf.etc just it wasnt running, needed new windscreen and interior needed re-assembling. Had a "buy it now" for a grand. Would have been perfect! But noooo I still had to find a daily first and so it slipped away
. I guess there more fish in the sea but you dont get something like that pop up every day, within an hours drive away.
On the other hand Im actually looking forward to pulling the motor and trans out. Never done it before. The V6 is a short motor so it gives me plenty of room. I actually bought a load leveller to make things easier. Now the other thing, hire an engine crane, or wait about 2 weeks and buy my own hehe. Kennards want like $80 for 24 hours. Thats almost 1/3rd of the price of owning my own to use whenever the hell I like.
EDIT: Wtf, rates have changed overnight and its now $60 for 24 hours lol. But still, I wouldnt mind having one longer so I can tidy the motor while its out.![]()
The daily. hehe
No its not the first pulsar I looked at, that one failed a RWC. But then I found this one which is 100x better anyway. Its just in such good condition for its age with 150k on the clock. Interior is just as clean and also smells clean. Was a grand more than the other one but couldnt say no. $2999 drive away with almost a years reg left on it. Should be picking it up within the next few days.

My gf has the same car as the one you are getting there a good little car to drive long as your not to tall lol
I diddnt have any problems driving it, guess Im not tall then![]()
A 3.8L VN manual to a 4cylinder nissan pulsar, Ouch, Big power difference.
Ah sorta forgot about this thread. Yeah it was a difference at first, but now I guess I've learned its ways and its pretty quick for a 4 banger lol. Ive even been told by others that its quicker than they expect. Over all its actually fun to drive. I keep it mechanically sound but it could do with a detail... I've never washed it. I think theres moss on the front bar hehehe. It WAS such a mint car inside and out.
Oh yeah the VN. A few weeks back I finally made a start on it, disconnected everything from the motor and trans to the point thats it ready to be lifted out. But then its just sat there again. I have a brand new crane + leveler ready to go, just need to pull my finger out. The plan still stays though. After the remaining body gets taken away (no room for another) I find a VP sedan, preferably a berlina or the likes with power windows and such but not a calais because a) Im not after IRS. b) they have a padded console and AFAIK they diddnt come in manual, and c) I actually want to keep my L2 cluster. THEN, I put VN front and rear bars on it, VQ guards (side indicators) and the likes. I might use the VN garnish aswell. Saves bogging the number plate light in the VN bumper, and I like the VN garnish. THEN PAINT IT ALL, preferably myself if all goes to plan.
Ive saved up a bit. Looking at a 'base' budget of 10k. Which should cover pretty much everything. The car, painting equipment and paint. Everything else to make the car roadworthy will be coming off the VN. The rest I can spend on more goodies. Ive never pained a car in my life btw. I will need to buy the lot including a compressor. Ive had a look around and I want to spend about a grand on a compressor and maybe $500 on each gun, two is required from what Ive read, primer/clear and base. Or something like that lol. Plus everything else.
Stay tuned?![]()
UPDATE
Hey guys havnt been on here in a while. So I found my next project car! '88 (supposably) SV3800 #012. Reason I say that is because I called HSV and they said they have no record of it. But I find it really hard to believe that its a replica. AFAIK it has everything one should have. Plus the drivers seat is ripped and the paints in crap condition so it would be a pretty poor rep'. But it has all the luxuries apart from climate and a sunroof, even the digital clock that only SV's had. So either way I'll keep it. Now I just have to get rid of the old one before I can bring it home. Yup I havnt touched it since my last post. But hey the pulsars clean haha Im actually rolling the guards on that at the moment caus it doesnt like 205's
Quick pics as it stands.
Bonnets pretty much stuffed from rust, surface rust on the roof and spoiler. But not around the windows! It will be getting a full respray probably in the same color (dorwood blue?), driving lights and stupid bullhorn sticker will be removed asap lol. Have decided that I wont paint it myself. Instead prep it myself as best as I can then get someone else to go over it and throw some paint on it
If all goes to plan the old VN should be ready to remove by next week and the new VN here by next weekend. Will be sad to see the old one go but Im looking forward to getting stuck into the new one![]()
Well she went on the 28th of February, almost 4 months ago already. Time really does go quick! I actually brought it home on the 26th of February '09. 2 days off being exactly 2 years in my possession. Wasnt intentional lol. When it went it was close to being a bare shell. I stripped everything worth keeping and some that wasnt. Even the diff center and put the axles back in so it could be rolled with some effort. Bet youve never seen a live axle car with camber
So anyway heres some pics from its final moments. I almost have a complete car in my shed worth of parts. The majority of it will be going into the new VN. I do miss this VN, but its nice knowing most of it including the running gear will be going in the new one
Will get around to making a thread for the new one at some stage.
