i was very serprised when i seen this car to have the roof lining still in good cond, its a great car spent a lil bit of cash on it just to get the roadworthy but now its going for a rego this week.... only thing is i still have to put my stereo system into it but then that will sound goodit does need a tidy up still a few lil dings and tiny bit of rust but thats normal for a vn...... any ideas what color this would look good? oh yer im getting the windows tinted next week to the darkest i can go (legally) and if anyone has for sale some nice rims and can post a pic with price that would be great also
cheers peeps hope to hear from ya soon hope ya like my new project baby
anyone got any ideas?
a decent paint job is a lot of money and considering the value of the car, you ll never get your money back. however, if you are willing to pay, i have seen a mad looking blue VN wagon.
new rims, what size? style?
if it has standard brakes, would highly recommend upgrading them before anything else, along with a decent set of tyres.
You're probably wondering where you are. I'll tell you where you might be. You might be in the room that you die in. This is your wake up call.
you could check out my vn wagon for a few ideas on some mods and its blue
thanks peter yer i was thinking of purple like a dark purple like almost black...
my friend reckons a sky blue...
yer i need to do the brakes as they are standed and i wanna put better ones on first but not sure about the rims i wouldnt mind going 16" or better just depends what i find when i have some spare cash lol
cheers thanks mate
thanks meanvn thats nice u mate
will check it out now
cheers
well this is what ive done to the car so far:
left lower rear control arm
front tyres
rear gear box seal
front sway bar bushes
front right rack boot
front left lower ball joint
front windscreen
wiper blades and arms
sercuered the battery
oil change
number plate light
brake light on window
brake light right back
interior light cover
thats also what it needed for a roady and its all done now..
i still have to do the seat belts as they get stuck sometimes and there a bit shitty,
i have to find a water bottle for it as i havent been able to get my hands on one that is the same (it has the twin hose coming of the side) also need a thermostate, brake pads and discs and back door skins as the previous owner cut the parts were the ashtrays go as they had kids it wasnt a bad swap though for a ford laser kf lmao i hated that thing but it was great on petrol i give it that much...
well im hoping to have all windows tinted next week thats the next thing to be done then im gunna deal with the rest as i go each pay ill be spending my spare dollars on this baby to get it looking good,
ive already got my new sub, speakers and stereo to go init but already had the amp so thats gunna make it nice also...
i forgot to say it had a reco motor put in last year so its got some guts not like my old one i had lol
the most common brake upgrade is to a VT commodore, however, it's not a cheap upgrade. if you source all the parts yourself, looking at least $500-$600. the ready built kits are even more. with that setup, you ll need at least 16" front rims and alright offset. also, if you ever do upgrade the brakes, don't make the mistake of thinking the stock spare wheel will fit, ( i have VP V8 brakes), i forgot about the upgrade and the car wouldn't move :P so yeh, big waste of time attempting to use the spare.
if/when you upgrade the sound system, keep in mind that VN commodores are the 2nd most stolen car (in victoria ) and without security it's far too easier to get inside the car. having a huge setup you can see from outside the car is asking for someone to take it. a friend had his big setup stolen 2 days before the alarm installation. my passenger door has had someone attempt to open it with a screwdriver.

Peter98 what sort of security setup do you think would do a VN justice? Just an alarm or alarm and immobilizer? Im thinking of getting a nice stereo head unit soon but with this news i might get an alarm+immobilizer instead...
colour code the bumpers mirrors and door handles, lower it, rims, stereo, tint and nice sounding exhaust then it will be a nice streeter
pete thanks for that mate i do have tinted windows but u can still see my setup and i do worrie as i have a pretty good sub in it but i do want to get darkest tint i can to hide that shit ive just put insurance on my car for a start but i will be looking into a alarm and stuff now just to try and stop the shifty ones out there lol.....
yep thanks thomas i might just do a exhaust i dont know what sort i want but i was thinking of what would sound tuff have u got any in mind to make my 3.8 to sound tuff?
rims yer im looking for some nice cheap ones and i can get dark tint for 300 so thats on the cards aswell, i would love to lower it i need to find some one that can do that for me lol if i had a fella in me life id ask him but single life sucks hehe
well, for an alarm+immobilizer get one with all black wiring and window sensors. (Mongoose - Australia just one popular company, there are lots)
hide the sound system behind stock or crappy looking covers and try and find a box for the sub that doesn't stand out. bolting to sub to the car is also a good way to slow thieves down.
best way is to avoid parking in dodgy areas, especially at night.
theres a few other ways as well, like buying aftermarket door locks but not sure on prices.
