Pretty much i bought this car for under 800 bucks. so im not too fussed about it. plans are to clean it up and make it run the best i possibly can without spending big bucks and drive it to and from work to save fuel and the kays on the caprice.
Well i said it was going to be a budget build so here is the brake down on exactly what ive spent on the car
* $ 15.00 Fuel, Air and Oil Filters
* $ 65.00 Level 3 Cluster and Switchblock
* $ 50.00 Greenfoam Tune
Total so far: $130.00
any comments on fuel ecomony are welcomed. im going to install a level 3 cluster so i can monitor my fuel usage etc. as atm i dont even have a tacho.
also comments on weight that can be removed. without losing functionality are welcomed. hozy greenfoam morton im talking to you guys
theese pics were taken before i touched the car. got it home and decided to get some pics of what it was. and how im going to clean it upjust spent the arvo tidying it up.
cheers for looking. really need ideas for the fuel economy part of this project.

ahahah wtf at that pod. damn good for 400 bucks haydz, painting with rollers time![]()
TVR-190: That LSD service paid off. Stato just got very sideways.
Grennan: In a stato, the term is held starboard.
Very nice for $400 mate! Time to get the spray cans out methinks:
- Gloss Black Bumpers
- Gloss Black garnish
- White letters on tyres???
- Colour coded grille
- Paint ALL wheels silver
- White sill parts
- Debadged!
Then the only sound deading I can think of is under the carpet in the cabin, and mabye in the boot...
Still very nice! will be watching this one!
Well so far I have cleaned out the boot and changed the rear garnish to a black one. Got all the wheels off and it's sitting on stands next to my house. I'll work on it over this weekend and next week then take it for rego. Plans are to remove all the interior. Remove the sound deadner. Clean the interior then replace it. Paint a whole bunch of it black. Maybe different wheels although I like the stickies on it. Replace the ateeringwheel with a vr one. And whatever else I can think of.
Yesterday I fitted an airbox with a fresh filter and also changed the fuel filter. With a bit of luck today I can pull the throttle body off and give it a good clean up/ mod it to open 100%. Also going to pressure wash the underneath to clean it up. So I can spot any leaks etc. But it Looks pretty clean under there for a 20 year old car.
There the best looking VNs. White body, black bars, silver ceptors with center caps, lowered and a nice thumping v8

LMAO!!! is the colour really called 'Dildo White'?! WTF.. isnt it Alpine?
The Blue One
trust us to spot ithahaha.
The Blue One
the colour is actually called Pathernon Ivory. but i think dildo cream sounds better.
no v8 for this one. ill leave that up to the caprice. this will just be a cheap runabout. in comparison to the other cars i was looking at itll be quick. and perfect to get to the pub on those nights where you just wanna leave it there.
Not bad for under $400, looks like it might have some potential for a nice daily. Will be checking back here for updates for sure.
I didnt know you felt so strongly on climate change haydz?
Lol at that pod filter!!! I want some close ups of it.

DILDO CREAM!! thats brutal as hahaha.
needs a massive cb aerial me thinks hahaa
Mischa my wallet feels so strongly on climate change and doing so many kays in the caprice isnt good for it. although its nothing special now. im hoping it will be one day and with this as a daily itll help me get the more severe projects done on the caprice.
i had a spare exec grille i gave a clean up and a coat of paint. come up pretty well without all that much effort so i think ill give the bumpers a go. as soon as this rain pisses off.
the pod filter was the biggest pos. with a stock exhaust i couldnt stand to be under the bonnet when it hit the limiter. was as if there was no filter lol.
it is a seriously disgusting colour and id have pretty much any other colour over it. but beggers cant be choosers and colour change is only a few cans of spray paint away.
nathan- no just no. this wont see any cruise duty so no.
probably take it for a blue slip later in the week and see what i needa replace. hopefully ill squeeze past without replacing the thrust bearing because tbh im not too worried till it needs a whole new clutch.
rooflining is all sagged. im probably just going to pull that out and spray it too. as i cant be bothered re trimming it.

If vr hood linings fit, Come put my manual in and you can have it haha!
lol haydz, that grill did look good i thought you bought it? See how it turns out in a month or so tho.
Doing a manual conversion on the statesman ethann? Sounds good, ive got to convert my V8 to manual sooner or later, the box is sitting in the boot. Will be the 3rd manual conversion ive done![]()

LOL ethann good luck getting us there :P we probably do come close on a few cruises though.
lol at the cop idea. probably end up getting the painter at work to do it for me.
today was pretty productive. after work i ripped out the whole interior and pressure washed the inside of the car and the carpet. took all that crappy sound deadner shit of that too. so its just going to be carpet and metal. also the boot to get it to a respectable level before removing the sound deadner. its a pain in the ass of a job. hope its worth it in the end. here's some progress pics.

Gee haydz if you wanted a car without sound deadener you should of borrowed mine
I wonder if its legal to drive around with no carpet? You know if it was me all that would be in the car would be a spedo, tacho, fuel, temp gauges. Upper section of dash (ADR reqiures this i know for sure), pedals, steering wheel, hand brake, gear shifter and seats
It will proberly go faster then your stato thenlol
edit: factory cruise!??!?!

haha Mischa im going for as light as i can possibly get it. so i can have a bit of fun with it. aswell as save fuel.
its always more fun when you dont care about the car![]()
and nah its not factory cruise i put it in because it was missing the headlight switch on the other and it looks cool :P the buttons do nothing tho.
where else can i save weight mischa. i was tempted to get it rego'd as a 2 seater but it might come in handy being able to put more people in the car.
ill grab some flap discs tomorrow and smooth over any bits that were hard to get off etc. then hopefully the carpet will be dry. chuck the interior back together and get it rego'd then i can do whatever mods i like
