Default new member with 1992 VP commodore sedan with lots of extras

    Hi all

i have a 1992 VP sedan its what i call a "sleeper" has lots of power to the point i find it hard to drive.

i paid $600 in 2009 for this car it had was left outside and had not been driven or started since 2004 had no rego flat tyres and back in 2004 was parked in front of a bush which the ate the car we then cut the bush off the car to get in it.... got some fuel and a recond battery for $20 put it in the car and as the owner had lost the keys we had to hotwire it to get it to start so we started it... it started 1st time like it was only driven the day before so we put air in the tyres a drove it home that day after it had a wash as it had thick green moss on it

so its home and has been for 12 months as i am on land it gets a drive everyday and it still unreg but that will change soon i hope.

i am the 3rd owner since new 347.653klm on the clock new auto gearbox before i got it.

it has .........v6 p/s aircon alarm cruise control radio cassette electric mirrors and more

im starting to think it might have been and unmarked cop car at some point as it has more power than most stock VP's i am trying to find the ECU to see if it has a power chip in it as its last owner had not done anything to the car it was the same when he got it.

    my plans

i hope to make it into a SV6 VP commodore group A body kit VZ SV6 voodoo blue paint colour and mags ....smoked tail lights.... leather seats..... i want to turn this car into a show car that can be driven on the road.

p/s this car also has no rust after all the years being left outside on a farm nextdoor to me

2nd p/s will upload photos soon

Not bad at all for the price you paid for it, sounds like the engine is still going strong and has a good amount of life left in it.

The 'cop chip' is a myth, though a previous owner may have gotten a custom memcal done for it. The VP's can be made somewhat quick with a bit of work.

No rust is always a good thing, with a bit of time and money this will clean up real well.

I must have missed something, why is it so powerful its hard to drive, is it not a standard v6 with over 300k on the clock.

My VN has only 39,000km on the clock but wouldn't say its powerfull, nor was my first brand new VN I bought in the early 90's

    I didn't realize that either
i have no idea why it has so much power Dazz its a standard V6 motor with over 300klm on the clock the motor has never had a rebuild has a new auto gearbox in it back in 2003 before being parked in 2004 in a bush until 2009

the old owner said he had done nothing to the car at all.

im thinking it might have a power chip in it i need to find time when i don't have the flu or the temp is in the 40s to get in it and see if the ECU has a chip in it..??

its 1st owner was in his 70s the last owner before me is in his late 30s i am the 3rd owner since new.

It doesn't have lots of power.

    Really pretty straight forward.

having the "chip" won't make two tenths of bugger all difference.......especially on a stocker 6.

I cant understand why it's "hard to drive" though.

    That 170hp must be astonishing.

lol ok thanks for the replys i found out it has some sort of chip in the ECU and has no stickers on it but it looks like this car will never get on the road as i have found a VP commodore with only 8000klm on the clock from new that i am waiting to pay for a man in his 90s got it new drove it for 8 months then parked it in the garage still has all its new tyres from holden and sevice books showing it has only done 8000klm has no rust or paint peeling but the breaks are stuck on so it will not move as its been sitting for so long and i don't know why but the check engine light is on so will be trying to fix it asap. and there is a big rush to get it moving and out as his garage made of wood is falling down around the car and if it falls it will crush the car into a pancake

maybe it just has F***ing horrible tyres on it ?
have you driven anything that has "decent" power on paper ?
maybe you just need something to compare it to, i admit when i drove my dads manual vn v6 i thought it was quick all it had was bolt ons.
i then drove a vk v8 and was amazed at how much quicker it was.

I tryed a friends stock v6 chip and my car has a big loss of power and is nicer to drive than when its other chip is put back in so i am starting to think it might be a burnout chip as the car revs hard to the point it backfires and even when i have the foot on the brake only and just let it sit..... the rear wheels slip and spin just from revs if i put it into reverse the wheels slip and thats before i take my foot off the brake friend with a vp says its revs are around 3k in park and idle
