My Daily driver!

Hi all,

Just picked up a Commodore for a daily driver, has 290,xxx on the clock, all just been fully serviced by previous owner, brakes, gearbox, sensors engine and gearbox mounts uni joints in tailshaft, just about everything except the air con works (which just needs re gassing)

Got it cheap i think considering. Only thing wrong with it is the boot lock is missing, so will need to somehow gain access to the boot to fit a new lock in it. Also the body is a bit rough, has rust in behind the glass in the rear so i will pop the glass out and repair it all, also has a dent in the rear right quarter. Not really a problem for me as i am a Spray painter by trade.

Future plans consist of:

Fix rust
Complete re spray in original colour
Re gas air con.


Any thoughts or suggestions as to what i should do to the beast?

Start by cleaning it up, looks pretty clean in the pic though

Nah it does have a small amount of rust, but plan to pop glass, and cut and plate it like it should be done. Dunno what i'm going to do with it yet, the 3.8 is a slug of an engine so no point making it go fast, probably just give it a real clean paint job and lower it with some bigger wheels.

Okay so update time,

I picked the car up thursday just gone, drove it home. The brakes need bleeding and the discs need machining, seeing as it hasnt been driven in about a year. I am going to give it a full body re paint, so thought i would post up some progress pics, seeing as it needs alot of body prep before fresh paint can touch the car

So this is what the car looks like un touched.




So i didnt touch the car untill today, this is my progress thus far.

had a big whack in the rear quarter so i set out in getting that sorted, a few hours later i had it looking back to normal.








I decided to flat down the roof and fix some small rust spots while i was at it, then hi filled it.







Next weekend:

Hi fill RH side and boot and bonnet, then paint roof.

UPDATE:

Well i actually had a proper 2 day weekend , so i decided to strip down the right side ready for primer, just did the tops of the doors, as the bottom half is in good nick still, so just hi filled the tops ready to be blocked for colour.

I have to admit, i hate commodores, well not so much the cars, but some of the stereotypical drivers that own them. But having worked on this car and having spent a fair amount of time on it already, i can see why people like them. The engine seems so reliable, everything is so cheap for them and parts are just so damn easy to get, hell any part from my car has to be ordered from japan and then i wait 4 weeks lol.

I'm really looking forward to getting this thing painted and on the road, should be a fun car to clean up

anyways enough of my rambling, heres some pics from todays proceedings.










Next weekend, i will remove the bonnet and boot and paint them up, also paint the rear garnish.

Update time!

Well i had a change of heart, and to be honest thought i would have some fun with the car and make it a bit different....

I changed my plan to repaint the whole car in a light blue, instead this weekend i painted the roof black with a prizma glitter. Took about 5 coats of clear to sink the effing glitter down, but all in all it looks swell! Going to sand and buff the roof next weekend to flatten out any bits of crap in the clear. It's not everyones cup of tea, but i had some of the stuff laying around so i thought i would give it a blast for shits and giggles.

next weekend will be buffing the roof as well as painting the bonnet and boot.

Well instead of waiting untill next weekend to sand and buff, i thought i would hack into it today while the paint was still soft, rubbed it down with 1200 and buffed it hard, came up a treat. It's nowhere near the quality of my usual work, but for this car and what im using it for, it will do

The sun came out today which is a rarity, so got to see some bling :P

Well another update!

Blocked down the right side of the car this morning to get it into paint for mid day, due to the small size of my place i can only do one side at a time. Luckily i managed to get ahold of some iso free sk clear which doesn't not harm people etc, it cost me ALOT more but it means i don't have to worry about the health of myself and other when painting at home.

Just finished basing and clearing the right hand side, will post some pics up soon.

And heres some pics from the finished result yesterday, i gave it a sand and buff today (had a couple small runs) all in all, happy with the colour.

Any more Progress with this? i dont get the Blue sides and Black roof is it all going one colour or is it staying like that, looks the part though paint looks awesome for a back yarder cant wait to get stuck into mine.

Yeah mate its staying blue with a black roof, i got bored so decided to do a prisma roof.


Well well, sure has been a while between updates.

After a few months i have actually just finished painting the body (ive been a bit slack!) Just starting to put it all back together. I will be painting the bumpers next weekend hopefully and then the whole car will be finished. Will then need to get a battery and have the brakes bled and then its off to get rego.

this was going to be my daily while my good car got re painted, seems i finished off my good car before this one :lol:

But anyways, its came up alright off the gun, once i get it registered, i will take it down to my work and sand it back and buff it.
