Picked her up yesterday for 2800. Has a few gremlins but the engine/driveline seems really good. Front left strut has a bolt snapped off up top, its kind of...dangerous to drive needs TLC ASAP, lotsa movement.
Speedo don't work.
Brake lights didn't work when i drove it home...got home...had a look at the fuses...and there wasn't one there...so i put one in the brake lights worked and left me scratching my head as to whytf it was missing the fuse and how long the previous owner drove it with no brake lights.
Inlet manifold gasket...u can see coolant through it, like a piece is missing in the middle of the gasket...Not doing the vacuum any favours i imagine...probably not helping with the idle n stuff either...But it still seems to run fine at the moment and if it used water today it was a negligible amount...so not a priority just yet.

Looking good mate got it for a steal too
V6. And its a good thing the camera is a bit blurry. Its nice but its got plenty of dings scratches and touch up paint on it.
Fixed the speedo, $38
Fixed the horn, $1
While i was under there screwing in the new speedo sensor...i noticed the bellhousing has a hole in it... Down the bottom sort of nearish where the drivers side exhaust comes past...You can see the clutch through it probably like a 20c piece sized hole...Bit of a worry but i dont think its going to really cause any problems.
I wanna take a photo of the starter motor too and get that up to see if its normal...you can kind of see the cog in it n stuff...I dont remember being able to see that in other cars i've owned...Grabbed hold of it and tried to move it around and its tight in there like it should be, just looked a little strange.
238 dollars for 2 new front strut top plates and 2 new front shock inserts to get the front end sorted out.
Heh. Front passenger strut assembly fell to pieces when i took it out, no spring compressors required it just fell apart.
I was thinking i might put a VS front end on it at some stage, with the ss lip, Is there vs ss sideskirts that will fit on a vg ute? Has anyone seen something like this done that can link me to a thread or some pics? I'd like to see how it was done, and what was done with the back end if anything to suit as well. Not a massive fan of big bodykits and stuff but I have a VS SS in the backyard as well so it would be cool to have my work ute looking similar to my fun sedan.
Ute now has a set of pacemaker extractors and a 2 and a half inch system 1 muffler. Hot tip. Sedan exhausts won't fit on utes. Was getting the lot off a mate for 250. My rusty hole filled exhaust fell apart taking it off muffler fell off n stuff put the sedan exhaust on there late at night had to rope it away from the tailshaft and not go over bumps on the way home. Ended up costing me 370 for the cat back from everlast mufflers and 200 for the pacies from my mate.
looks tidy whats the front seats out of ive never seen them.
Factory bench seat.
Anyone know where I could get some roll bars\ ladder racks in Adelaide? And what sort of money I'd have to pay for them?
lol it looks like it giving you a hard time!
Weeeeell...Its a nice enough car that its worth putting in the wrench time really. On the cards is new wheel bearings new front springs new ball joints new steering rack new front buckets rebuilt diff with an lsd centre replaced inlet manifold gasket, and i also have a mate with a project vn aero who has changed his mind from a turbo 6 to an ls1, so i can get a motor and gearbox of him for reasonably cheap and he has a turbo kit sitting there as well. Obviously needs some custom turbo manifolds and a fair bit of time invested to make it work...but its there...and its an option...with a spare motor and gearbox to sit in the shed =)
To update, the whole front end suspension has been replaced, the cars handles much better now. And i have a vs lined up to be a donor for changing the front guards headlights bonnet and bumper, the whole thing is getting a respray in white, possibly with a pearl. Just wondering...How other people have dealt with the body line difference between the vs front guards and the doors on the VG ute, is it noticible? does it look bad? is it worth bogging the whole body line?
ive done that exact conversion on my VG ute and all the lines and grooves match up.
